“Justice For All”? Shouldn't Al Pacino or Superman be on that coin?

Because they don’t know who he is. I mean, what instrument did HE play?

One thing that surprises me is that with the exception of Washington DC & Samoa every one of these has been liberated from some dictatorship by the USMC. In the case of Guam twice. And no mention of them shows up. The boat on Guam should be an LVT-1.

I think Mayor Marian Berry, Mr. Coke Head, is more appropriate for DC.

DC is a bunch of whiners. Most of the DC plates I see have a slogan of “Taxation Without Representation.” You are a Federal District. Not a state. Deal.

That should be on the back of the dollar coin. With the statue of liberty on the front. With the motto, "Freedom is not free. Lberty must be won."
Instead we will have the portraits of B.J. Clinton, B.H. Obama, Jimmy Carter, Lyndon Johnson, and James Buchanan. Heck what did Millard Fillmore (put plumbing in the White House?) or William Henry Harrison (nice guy but was President for less than 60 days) do to deserve to have their faces on a coin? OK we get a Reagan and Teddy Roosevelt too, but just being president should not be enough to get you on a coin, you should need to actually do something good while in the job.

True, but the biggest fight was for the Marianas and Guam 44. Guam 1898 was technically captured by the Navy. USS Charlston fired a few shots. They were so poorly aimed that Spanish sent out a boat to apologies that they couldn't return our salute as their only cannon was inoperable. When informed that a war had broken Between the US and Spain the Spanish, having just stated that they were completely defenseless, surrendered. Getting the Japanese to depart took a bit more effort.

So on the Samoan quarter, is that a pot used to symbolize the history of cannibalism in Samoa?

Okay - then howabout the first black Senator? Carlos Paula? He was a rightfielder, showed some promise but turned out mediocre at best. However, he was from Cuba - the DC crowd should get all hot & bothered over that....

The quarter honoring the District of Columbia debuts in late January 2009. The coin's reverse design features an image of celebrated musician Edward Kennedy "Duke" Ellington Guess the two dimes and a nickel bound together with duct tape didn't pass the vending machine test.
