SRINAGAR: With pressure mounting on Pakistan to act against the sources of terror responsible for the Mumbai attacks, India on Tuesday said Islamabad should follow up its promise to the global community with action. ( Watch )

"I have already said this in Parliament. Words (by Pakistan) must be followed up with action," External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee told reporters.

"We expect that good sense will prevail and we expect that the assurances that are coming (from Pakistan) will translate into action. Because assurances are coming from established leadership of that country, we expect conducive atmosphere will prevail to act on the promises made," Mukherjee said, responding to questions.

Asked if the Mumbai terror would affect Indo-Pak relations vis-a-vis the Kashmir issue, the External Affairs Minister categorically stated that the attacks had nothing to do with the bilateral relationship on matters relating to the border state.

"It is not a Kashmir issue. It is not merely an issue between Pakistan and India. It is about global war against terrorism," Mukherjee said, referring to the 60-hour-long siege of Mumbai landmarks beginning November 26 that claimed 183 lives.

"We should not look at the issue through the prism of Indo-Pak relations or the prism of Kashmir," he said.

His statement came barely hours after defence minister AK Antony’s remark that India is not planning any military action against Pakistan.

"We are not planning any military action... but at the same time unless Pakistan takes actions against those terrorists who are operating from their soil against India and also against all those who are behind the Mumbai terrorist attack, things will not be normal," defence minister A K Antony had said.

On the issue of troop deployment along the Indo-Pak border, Antony said the situation there was "normal" and armed forces were "always ready".

"Everything is normal because our forces are always ready," the Minister said.

The Minister denied that India was planning to call off the more than five-year-old ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC).

"Nothing like that," he stated when asked if India had any plans to call off the ceasefire with Pakistan.

Refusing to divulge India's course of action in the present scenario, Antony demanded sincere action by Pakistan against the terrorists.

"I cannot say what course of action we will take but unless Pakistan shows sincerity in whatever they are saying through their actions, one thing is very sure that there is no question of things as usual," he said.

I don’t see a whole lot of wiggle room in there....

This was a polite way of saying “if you don’t address this in a timely fashion...we will”

particularly with India’s national elections coming up in a couple months . . . may not sit well with the voting public if the current .gov doesn’t respond forcefully enough

Thankfully, it also leaves the door open for BJP... because they will actually do something about it.

But, of course... I am also hoping that BJP makes gains, our fate in the West is inseparably tied to the Hindus in India.

A lot of Westerners are either unaware or willfully ignorant of this because of myopic religious bias. It is you my friend that I have to thank for some of my enlightenment on the topic just as Krishna did with Arjuna in the Bhagavad-Gita.

The honor and pleasure is mine! Actually I’ve been planning to start a Hindu Caucus - Gengis Khan asked me a long time ago (I don’t think he’s around any more) but I’d rather call it Sat Dharma caucus, as Hindu is a word made up by Muslim invaders anyway.

I have lots of articles, quotes and essays I can post (and I can always write up more, and search for stuff here and there), and I’m sure others would have stuff to contribute. There are a lot of misconceptions about the ancient Vedic religion and philosophy and there is nothing I’d like better than to sit down and discuss such things.

Making it a “Caucus” in the Religion Forum means people can’t disrupt with fanatic fact-free or sectarian criticism.

PS - A great teacher in the last century said that the West - I think he said specifically the USA - and India need to team up. India could be the eyes - with spiritual vision - and the West the legs, with their money and power. The legs go in the wrong direction without the eyes. And they certainly are going in the wrong direction.

i was a little disappointed how the BJP did in the local elections right after the Mumbai attacks. Probably a “rally around the flag” sentiment. I don’t think that will work for the Congress party come the national elections in a few months

Let me know if you do this.

I am not religious, but I do see the literary similarities very clearly between the idealsand events in the Bibles (Christian and Jewish) and those in the Bhagavad-Gita.

Vishnu coming as Krishna is like Yahweh coming as Yeshua.

Vishnu returning as Kalki on a white horse to destroy the wicked is exactly like Yahweh returning as Yeshua in Revelations to do the same.

The fate of the West is tied to that of the Hindus. The biggest tests will be if either the Christians, Buddhists, Jews or Hindus can learn to help each other without * 'disintegration "into a welter of chattering politics and bloody ruin."' *

(* Partial quote from Churchill about cooperation on the defense of India from Japanese invasion.*)

I have a book or three describing that historically the entire world was controlled by an emperor from Bharat - aka “India”, of course the borders were way expanded and included at least Afghanistan to the west. The culture of the Vedas was followed in much of the world, and Sanskrit is the mother of all languages, aside from very obscure dialects. The amount of English and other European languages with Sanskrit based words is increbible. This world culture was destroyed after the Kurukshetra War, a bit more than 5,000 years ago, and the age changed from Dwapara to Kali, and records, memories and civilizations got destroyed. Kshatriyas dynasties were partically destroyed, and remnants wandered around the earth, bringing bits of memory with them. Much of the Old Testament is basically a re-telling of stories in the Puranas.

If you’re interested, PM me and I will send you a couple of links.

So many Hindus do not have a clue of the real history of the Vedic religion and civilization. The word “Hindu” is term Muslim invaders invented, as the called residents on the other side of the Sindhu river “Hindus” (they mixed up “h” and “s”). The Sanskrit name for India is Bharat, or Bharat Varsha.
