Gingrich: RNC Ad is 'Destructive Distraction'
Atlantic Magazine ^ | 16 Dec 2008 02:07 pm | Marc Ambinder

Posted on 12/16/2008 4:15:40 PM PST by lewisglad

Dear Chairman Duncan,

I was saddened to learn that at a time of national trial, when a president-elect is preparing to take office in the midst of the worst financial crisis in over seventy years, that the Republican National Committee is engaged in the sort of negative, attack politics that the voters rejected in the 2006 and 2008 election cycles.

The recent web advertisement, "Questions Remain," is a destructive distraction. Clearly, we should insist that all taped communications regarding the Senate seat should be made public. However, that should be a matter of public policy, not an excuse for political attack.

In a time when America is facing real challenges, Republicans should be working to help the incoming President succeed in meeting them, regardless of his Party.

From now until the inaugural, Republicans should be offering to help the President-elect prepare to take office.

Furthermore, once President Obama takes office, Republicans should be eager to work with him when he is right, and, when he is wrong, offer a better solution, instead of just opposing him.

This is the only way the Republican Party will become known as the "better solutions" party, not just an opposition party. And this is the only way Republicans will ever regain the trust of the voters to return to the majority.

This ad is a terrible signal to be sending about both the goals of the Republican Party in the midst of the nation's troubled economic times and about whether we have actually learned anything from the defeats of 2006 and 2008.

The RNC should pull the ad down immediately.

Sincerely,

Newt Gingrich

Chairman, American Solutions

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives

I’m really not a conspiracy nut, but sometimes you just have to wonder - do the Republicans hate Republicans?

Dear Newt,

The GOP can be both.

Sincerely,

Newt should just go away. It's sad for me to say this because I really respected him at one time, or maybe I should say he really fooled me at one time. But it's time for him to say, "Good night."

“Clearly, we should insist that all taped communications regarding the Senate seat should be made public. However, that should be a matter of public policy, not an excuse for political attack. “

Newt, the dems, by NOT being up front in this (and most other issues), have kept the whole painful matter up front.

I can’t see any reason whatsoever to cooperate with anything that has to do with this Kenyan-born, illegal alien, America hating punk that we elected last month . . . not one single reason. He hates this country; his wife hates this country; and by now, assuming he took his kids to church (?) to listen to that babbling moron Rev. White, his kids hate this country too.

It is a travesty that that Chicago hood will be going into the White House. I wish him the absolute worst that can possibly happen . . . he’s an illegal alien with absolutely no credentials to be the president. It’s a disgrace!

Ditto for a war going on in Iraq--and savaging Pres Bush--

while giving encouragement and 'aid and comfort' to our enemies.

The current POTUS has set the USA on a clear path of national socialism and Gingrich is worried about the GOP attacking the incoming President’s Marxist tendencies and ties to his home states corrupt political machine.

Newt’s priorities are definitely out of whack. If not, off the wall.
