The letter was obviously given or sold to the reporter by Nicole who only gave her side of what happened. The article states that she is not his granddaughter as she claimed but the daughter of one of his son's ex wives by a different father. I don't know of many artists who make $40,000 per year from their art. She probably has another source of income. It may be sponging off the Buffet family and I assume she is trying to cash in on her TV show appearances.
This article makes her sound bad, not Warren Buffet.

Legally, she is indeed his granddaughter. She was adopted by one of his sons.

Of course, Buffett’s troubles with his children are a whole other article. His whole “homespun salt-of-the-earth” schtick is just for public relations. What Warren wants, Warren gets.
