ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- Gov. Sarah Palin says she would not accept a raise recommended by the State Officers Compensation Commission. Palin spokesman Bill McAllister said Wednesday that if the Legislature submits legislation for a raise, Palin will not accept the money. Instead, if the raise is approved, she will subtract the difference from her current salary and donate it to charity or find a way to redirect the funds for the benefit of others, McAllister said.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is called character. It is also a major part of the reason that the left, the media and several Republicans are terrified of her...all of that hatred of her we witnessed this year arose out of fear.

ME ME ME ME ME. I have already marked my calender. All she needs is a good running mate, someone who is a TRUE Reagan Conservative like she is, no more RINO McCain’s. They both have to be on the same page and share the same views in order for it to work

How many states in the black?

Not Alaska this year. They expect to withdraw $400 million from their reserves.

Next years budget requires basically depleting $238 million out of an “Alaska Housing Capital Corporation” savings fund that the Legislature created three years ago. The 2009 budget is based upon oil averaging over $74 a barrel. That is not looking likely at all.

ADN decided to acknowledge it with a little snippet. I'm sure if Governor Patterson rejected a pay raise I would just see a little blurb about it in the papers tomorrow. /S

Looking at the comments on this page, from people who do not live in Alaska, I think Rush is right. These people do not have lives, this is their life.

They just hang out at websites of various Alaskan media outlets to post negative things about her?

I wondered what would take you guys so long. I actually find the people who post negative comments about her, on every thread, far creepier than her so called “groupies”.

Not Alaska this year. They expect to withdraw $400 million from their reserves.

The same reserve that had a $5 billion surplus added in from earlier in the budget year. That's what the reserve is for, to deal with price fluctuations in the oil market.

I would expect these kinds of slanted "facts" from the MSM, not from someone on this board.

I was correcting false statements made about the Alaska budget. Neither this year nor next year is it actually operating in the black. Reserves are being depleted rather quickly.

Palin is a good conservative leader with principled values. But she doesn't walk on water and I don't agree with every decision she has made.

If she got a 46% raise and she’s now making $125,000, that means she was making only aroound $85,000 before the 2006 raise. That’s pretty crappy pay for a governor. Who can blame her for accepting it?

She obviously considers $125K to be a fair salary, since it is about the average for all 50 U.S. governors.’

79 University of Alaska administrators and professors earned more than Palin’s $125,000 salary in 2006. Administrators like President Mark Hamilton made up the bulk of that group, while 21 professors earned more than the governor.
