Blago's leaking to the Sun-Times like a sieve.

The stupidity of the Obama team on this is staggering. Why didn’t they just look at the reporter and say “Of course we are working together on who will take my seat, it’s important because I want someone I can work with in Congress, and I wanted my opinion heard.” If he had come out and said that then just throw the idiot who talked money with him under the bus while claiming ignorance and it’s over with.

I agree. Obama is playing this really badly, unless there is more to the story.

From what we’ve heard so far, Blago was complaining because he wasn’t getting any firm promise of anything from Obama. Which means Obama is in the clear. So why does he act like he’s guilty?

This is similar to the birth certificate fiasco. It seems to be a personality trait; he insists on acting guilty.

I don’t know if it’s Blagojevich who is leaking. Maybe it’s someone in the US Attorney’s office who doesn’t like the way that Fitzgerald is whitewashing Obama.

The stupidity of the Obama team on this is staggering.

Unless they've got something to hide -- or think they do.

The best case for Obama's team is that they're clean, but didn't want to leave even a perception of wrong-doing with a governor who (by then) they should have known was dirty. But as you point out, that's easily disposed of, simply by telling the truth.

It think that this option is no longer on the table, as the Sun Times has pretty much shown that Obama's team is lying about this.

Which pretty much leaves the CYA angle. The question remains -- whose A is being C'd?

I can see Rahm Emanuel making a side-deal on the appointment, for example, and he would therefore have a good motive for hiding his own involvement. That wouldn't necessarily implicate Obama -- perhaps Rahm really was trying to pad his own nest.

True or not, I'm guessing that Obama's team will probably try this tactic next -- they've demonstrated a great willingness to throw anybody under the bus who makes them look bad.

I think, however, that if Rahm was not acting on his own, Obama's team will probably fail on this count, too. Rahm Emanuel would have serious incentive to sing. And Rezko and Blago already have incentive to sing.

In these days of financial uncertainty, I believe that Popcorn is the only rational investment. Many, many folks will be buying it as this case continues to unfold.

Ab, you could not be more right. I have said this all along. Just admit your role and move on. It is the same with the birth certificate. Come out with it and say here is my birth certificate, now leave me alone.

We have a winner! I only clicked on this thread to see if anyone would think of the "deep throat" metaphor...and you're did it. Congrats.

I agree complete, this is going to be so interesting to watch unfold and to see which theory pans out. I am going long on butter myself, corn is down now and margarine just isn’t as good as the real thing on popcorn.

I'm hoping that all the crapheads who got away with murder under the Clinton Administration come back to work for Obama before heading to prison. Obama is showing none of Bill's knack for managing scandal.

Here's hoping Jamie Gorelick, David Kendall, Sydney Blumenthal and all those other jerks find employment in this administration.

If anybody on earth knew who originally hired Craig Livingstone, we could track him down for a gig too.

The bigger story here is that the Feds have been investigating Blagoyabitch for some time -- perhaps several years. None of the players involved (or even remotely involved) outside the prosecutor's office -- and this would include Blagoyabitch, Emanuel, Obama, Daley, Jesse Jackson (both Sr. and Jr.), etc. -- has any idea how many times their voices can be heard on taped conversations with Blago during that time.

And just as importantly . . . they simply can't remember everything they've discussed with him -- even normal, innocuos things -- on the phone during that time.

I still hold out some hope that one or more of these characters (Emanuel or Blagoyabitch in particular) can be heard uttering all sorts of terms like "n!gger" on these tapes.

Blame the weed. It often inspires paranoia.

I’m not a fan of Rahm Emanuel by any stretch of the imagination, but I doubt he was speaking to the gov without Obama’s input. The question is, what did Emanuel offer to obtain his favorite’s placement in office?

It’s going to be interesting to see how this plays out. I don’t see Emanuel or more importantly Obama being safe by any means.

Actually, the explanation is probably much simpler than that.

It's not uncommon for folks who know (or think they know) really juicy information to want other people to know that they know. I'd bet there's a real rush in knowing that your inside information has made national news.

In Obama’s mind, it only adds to the myth of the man. To me, he exhibits classic signs of narcissistic personality disorder.

Not directly. However, that would taint Obama big time. If he really did not know, he is an obvious idiot and not in control. If he really did know, he is a corrupt liar. People will need to choose which of those to believe. Not good for Obama.
