Palin REFUSES $25,000 pay hike

JUNEAU, Alaska, Dec. 18 (UPI) -- Former Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said she would refuse a $25,000 pay raise during her current term as Alaska governor.

A state commission recommended boosting the governor's pay to $150,000 from $125,000.

The five-member state Officers Compensation Commission, created by the state Legislature, also said legislators needed more money, along with the lieutenant governor and government department heads, the Anchorage Daily News reported.

If the commission pushes ahead with a pay raise, Palin will not accept the money, spokesman Bill McAllister said.

"Her view is, it's just not appropriate to accept a pay raise in the middle of the term," he told the newspaper.

Palin's term ends in 2010.

Palin makes 46 percent more than her most recent predecessor, Frank Murkowski, but is the 24th-lowest paid governor, the commission said.

Who needs that $25,000 with the book deal she’s going to get? :)

Smiley?

I doubt that Slickness, Hillary, The Big "O" or any other rat would do the same thing.

So America could have had a fiscally responsible, abuse-fighting open-book vice-president.

Instead, we have a scandal-ridden spend-a-holic closed-book president-elect and his idiotic nepotistic sidekick.

It's amazing the pay raises offered to government employee and elected government officials. Many in the working class only earn about $25,000 per year...And their offering the equivalent of an annual income as pay raise?

lol...

No wonder so many look at government nowadays with utter contempt.

This should be INTERNATIONAL headline news.

Of course, if she accepted the pay raise, the media would be all over it.

Do you know which VA congressmen voted for the pay raise? I'm especially interested in how Randy Forbes and Eric Cantor voted.

Contrast this with our Congress who just took another pay hike.

“She doesn’t just think like one of us, she IS one of us.”

Indeed. Unlike RINOs, she doesn’t just play a conservative on TV.

it’s the 7% cut in state spending that really impresses me...I don’t think we’ll hear much from romney or huck anymore since they were never able to cut spending like that when they were governors.

Well, y’all do, dontcha?

Seriously, yes the cowards in the media will lead their propaganda with the always trusty:

“Some have said”

“Some have said that Governor Palin is actually refusing this pay raise in a grandstanding effort to actually surreptitiously obtain a much larger, hidden, highly mysterious, under the table kickback from her greedy white Christian friends in BigOil, who by the way are raping Mother Gaia at this very moment.”

“-so what. Its the right think to decline tax payer money ESPEICALLY if she’s getting a big book deal.”

Wrong you are, grasshopper. If you are doing your job and there is a chance for a pay raise for you because of the job you are doing, then your personal financial situation is not considered. I’ve gotten many raises in my lifetime and I never had to discuss what other ventures I may have had on the sad. My merit raises were based on my performance. If I wrote a book or a song, or invented something and made a fortune, why should my employer get out of offering me a raise if it is warranted?

She deserves both the pay raise and the book deal. They are separate financial transactions IMHO.
