Fifty years ago, I don't think Cuba was considered a "developing country". But after 50 years of backwards Communism and Castro, it has turned into one.

Great point! Unfortunately they no longer teach actual history in American schools.

My husband and his family escaped Cuba after Castro’s coup.

My husband’s uncle was a political prisoner for a year simply because he wanted to leave Cuba. His wealthy family supported Castro, and members of the family were rewarded with ambassadorships. They felt it would be an embarrassment to them if he defected, so they had him arrested.

While he was a prisoner, his wife (my husband’s aunt) had to bring him food every day otherwise he would not have had anything to eat. He was a chemical engineer and not used to hard labor, but was forced to work the sugar cane fields while he was in prison.

Turner doesn’t have a clue what Communism really is like. He would have a major wake-up call if he actually had to live in such a country.
