Senate flap sinks O'Connor's hopes for nod

Rahm Emanuel's role in attempting to influence Gov. Blagojevich's choice of a U.S. Senate replacement for President-elect Barack Obama could impact the heated race to fill another important vacancy: Emanuel's own seat in Congress.
Ald. Pat O'Connor (40th), Mayor Daley's unofficial City Council floor leader, had hoped to emerge from the crowded field of candidates in the 5th Congressional District by winning Daley's support and by persuading Emanuel to use his formidable powers of persuasion to clear the field.
But now that the Chicago Sun-Times has lifted the veil on Emanuel's efforts to persuade Blagojevich to appoint Obama family friend Valerie Jarrett to the U.S. Senate, Emanuel has -- as one veteran ward boss put it -- "gone underground."
The new White House chief of staff is reluctant to get involved in the 5th District race, which has attracted more than two dozen candidates.
On Wednesday, O'Connor acknowledged he had not yet lined up the support he needs to win the Democratic endorsement, in part because Emanuel is standing on the sidelines.
"The problem is, they're in the middle of a very serious situation and this is less important [by] comparison," O'Connor said, referring to the transition process.
Measuring his words carefully to avoid alienating Emanuel, the alderman said: "He could clear the field, but I'm not asking him to do that at this time."
After reviewing the transcripts of the Blagojevich tapes, O'Connor said he doesn't believe Emanuel will be tainted by the scandal.
"The only thing Congressman Emanuel has done was indicate that they had some preferences as to who they wanted [in] the seat, and that all they were willing to trade for that was their appreciation," O'Connor said.
Emanuel was on track to become U.S. House speaker someday before accepting Obama's offer.
He has told Democratic ward bosses that he would like to reclaim the seat after a few years as chief of staff.
He was believed to be leaning toward O'Connor, in part, because the alderman might be amenable to giving up the seat at some point.

Rahm is underground because he is up to his neck in this. Blago will rat out Rahm and the tapes will most likely implicate him. Rahm will fall and most likely Obama too from the purchase of his shady land deal that Mrs. Blago handled and Blago and Rezco know all the facts about. Blago WILL NOT cover for Obama. I doubt Blago is happy with Obie since Obama has publicly mocked him and his wife and called for Blago’s resignation.
I’ve been unable to find any confirmation that Mrs. PottyMouth was involved in and got a commission from the Obama/Rezko house deal. Have you seen that confirmed? If so, please provide a link ........ thanks. ;)

I’m hoping for a nice long scandal. The more time 0bama has to spend fighting subpoenas and worrying about who’s squealing, the less time he has to try to implement his radical agenda.
My dream is that he has to go begging to President Palin for a pardon.

Not only do I think he will be too busy ducking subpoenas, indictments and grand jury investigations to get anything done. He will be mocked tirelessly by whomever our nominee is for all of this garbage about Hope and Change. A scandal before you even take office is not the politics of change.

You would think Emanuel would at least want to get back at least as much as he paid for his House seat in the first place. Let’s see, whose seat was that before Emanuel got it? Oh yeah - - it was Blagojevich’s seat! I understand Blago drives a hard bargain....
The sychophant Democrat "mainstream" newsrooms will certainly be no help, so we shall see what the Republicans are made of. It will be up to them to press for hearing after hearing after hearing....
At the very least, maybe they can keep the scumbag rats too busy with scandal hearings to get into mischief - - like going on drunken spending sprees and hiking taxes through the roof, etc.

I would like to hear Rahm say: " Lookit, Obama wants $10 million for his seat and I want $5 million for my seat. So Daley and the boys better come up with it pronto."
Think back to when this first broke in the news. Obama denied his people had anything to do with anything. It was so clear in the smoking gun that the prez elect office was in it. Obama denied it and the MSM covered.
Now THIS! It is like an admittance weeks later but ever so gently covered up by the media.
This is already the most secretive and corrupt regime to ever run the USA and they are not even in office yet.
ANYONE that Rahm wanted HAS TO BE DIRTY and CORRUPT!
