We should offer them a case of vodka instead.

So where did you read that anti-ballistic missiles are fired out of missile silos? They are small and could not possibly be mistaken for a nuclear missile. They destroy with energy derived from speed and shrapnel thrown out from a small explosion near their target.

Some people have to get a clue. Russia is entirely afraid these missiles will be used against an attack by THEM on Europe. Now why would they be afraid of that since they have always demonstrated how peaceful & trustworthy they are....

The Russian offer is a post dated check, drawn on a crashing bank.

What the Russians fear is a serious NATO/US commitment to eastern European states they believe are their natural satellites. They want to finlandize Poland and the Czech Republic as well as the Baltic states.

Russia has many spies and apparently they’re telling Moscow that America’s Missile Shield works and works well. Otherwise, why would they keep trying to prevent it form being deployed? Hussein 0bama apparently is not bright enough to figure that out.

How will Obama respond to this friendly overture?

Maybe we can go back to planting daisies on missile silos.

The problem the Russians have with it is not that it might be offensive but that they think it might actually work defensively and that diminishes their nuclear threat.

That's partly true but it doesn't stops here. The continuation is that the Russians believe the USA will attack Russia with conventional means when they see no threat in the Russian nukes.

The problem with that argument is that Russia does not have anything which the US wants or needs (don't tell me oil, Saudi has more and is easier to conquer if we were in that mood). We have no incentive to attack.

Meanwhile, Russia is turning into a failed state, with lots of incentives to loot her neighbors, or in threatening them into giving tribute.

It doesnt take “strategic weapons” to attack Europe

Nor to continue to aid Iran/Syria in building nuclear weapons for regional use

(PS: When did the Russians ever honestly adhere to an agreement with the West???... crickets)

Price of oil keeps tanking, they’ll have a hard time maintaining the weapons they already have.

The problem with that argument is that Russia does not have anything which the US wants or needs

I think there are things the USA would use force for: like making Russia allow foreign companies use its tube-transport facilities to Western Europe to deliver gas/oil.

"You either allow them transport their oil at $0.01 per 100 miles or be bombed into oblivion".

Meanwhile, Russia is turning into a failed state, with lots of incentives to loot her neighbors, or in threatening them into giving tribute.

I can't see what makes you think so since all the countries surrounding Russia are either poorer or NATO members which are hard to loot.

"You either allow them transport their oil at $0.01 per 100 miles or be bombed into oblivion".

More likely scenario is Russia finding a reason to invade any country (eg, Georgia) that offered a pipeline that would compete with Russia's pipeline, and threaten Russia's position in supplying natural gas and oil to Europe.

Georgia's pipeline, which linked the Caspian oil fields to the Black Sea and Turkey, were the likely real targets of the Georgia war.

Well this is just a speculation since you don't provide any facts to support this point of view, moreover, no-one has provided them before you yet.

But the Georgians did shell Russian peacekeepers so an answer was a debt of honour.

Oil is below $40. The Russian economy is in collapse.

Exactly. This isn't a bargaining chip on the table, it's a halt forced by circumstance. Making concessions to them for something they're doing either way is stupid.
