Caroline Palin
IBD Editorials ^ | December, 19, 2008

Politics: As the Kennedy du jour tours New York seeking Hillary's seat, will she be asked tough questions by Couric, Gibson, et al.? We'll see what Sarah's critics say about someone who's famous for being well-known.

Sweet Caroline (yes, Neil Diamond wrote the song about her) has announced she really, really wants to be New York's next senator. As she goes about learning the problems of the state, including those beyond New York City's Upper East Side, we hope she has a GPS with turn-by-turn instructions.

Up to now, Kennedy's interest in New York politics has been minimal. As the Daily News has reported, she skipped about half the 38 contested elections held since she registered to vote in New York in 1988, including four Democratic primaries in mayoral elections won three times by Republicans.

She also missed voting in the race for the Senate seat she now seeks. Seems she was doing something else in 1994, when Daniel Patrick Moynihan was running for re-election.

The New York Times described her qualifications thus: "Ms. Kennedy has much going for her. As a public figure, she carries the glamour and poignancy of her family." Ruth Marcus of the Washington Post gushes that our "tragic national princess," the "Cinderella Kennedy" is "finally rewarded" for "her years of quiet dignity." First a pony, now a Senate seat.

Contrast such swooning over Caroline with the full-court press the media put on Sarah Palin. The Alaska governor's experience, interest in her state and political involvement make Caroline look like a Chihuahua next to Palin's pit bull, with or without lipstick. We doubt if Katie Couric will ask Camelot's heiress how much she spends on her wardrobe.

Do you post every IBD editorial every night?

I’m not being snarky, just curious. I like IBD, and I often want to post their editorials, however you always beat me to it.

Bristol Palins Myspace/Facebook pics were all over the place. I wonder why the pics of Kennedy’s underage drinking daughter aren’t getting the same press?

I want Paris Hilton to take the seat - she’s from a famous family too.

And she is experienced as far as dealing with crime, her house was robbed, that makes her an expect.

I am actually thinking of running for Senator of New York, I don’t live there, never been there, don’t have any executive experience, don’t have a famous last name, but hey, if Caroline can go for it, so can I

Freepers, we have to keep pounding away at the fact that Caroline Kennedy didn't bother to vote about 50% of the time!

Carolyn Rewarded?!!!

What about some freaking decent representation for NYS in the U.S. Senate. We pay for these clowns like Chucky Cheese and certainly do not get out monies worth. Last time I looked out NY U.S. Senate seat was not supposed to be an hornary postion.

As an Ivy League professor, I would suggest a reasonable alternative to our NY Senate “seat” to honor Ms. Slossberg.. Instead our sister university who helped thrust the Kennedys upon us (Havard) should award Carolyn an hornary doctoral degree. Not to worry if carolyn has not done enough on her own to deserve it. It could be justified by the Harvard faculty and trustees as in honor of Teddy being caught cheating on his Spanish exam at Harvard and suffering essentially no penalty (the outcome for all Kennedys who break the rules/law).

From what I heard today on the radio, Caroline has not voted at all, how telling, she wants to be senator of a state that she refuses to vote in, well that seals the deal, definitely qualified. Let’s send her to Gaza and let her negotiate with Hezbollah and Hamas, her name alone would make them realize the error of their ways

She's an "expect" alright, just not for that reason... *\;-)

We shouldn’t keep comparing her to Palin. Palin is governor of a state the size of Western Europe. Palin has proven what she’s made of.

We should be comparing Kennedy to Obama. Obama is the guy with no verifiable resume whatsoever. He’s the guy who has never done anything, and what he’s done he won’t admit to.

If Obama is qualified to be president of the United States, Ms Kennedy is qualifed to be Queen of the Universe.

You may have stumbled onto something here. Actually, Paris Hilton would almost certainly be a better choice than Sweet Caroline - do you remember her reply to John McCain during the presidential campaign? (see below):

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26044888/

Now I realize she certainly didn’t come up with it herself, but her energy policy was better than that supported by just about every Dem - surely it would be better than what Caroline would push for, since she’d most probably be led around by the nose by her Neo-Luddite relation, Robert Kennedy Jr.

So by all means, Paris Hilton for Senator - hell’s bells, it’s New York, so it’s going to be some idiot Democrat - might as well get some entertainment value out of the seat!
