I do not believe a word of this.
Patton was a great warrior, and a great American. “Wild Bill” would not have done this, nor condoned it.
Total Bunk.
Ahhh, but the poison delivered by a Russky had to nail the deal for this one. Ol’ Patton would not have gone quietly. ;-)
Rumors of this have floated for years.
This isn’t really news, just news to some people.
william colby iii was assassinated.
he was writing his memoirs in an old fishing cabin way out on the potomac.
the los angeles times reported, about p. 31 of the a section, that colby was missing from his cabin.
two days later the times reported that his body was found floating in the potomac.
While I am very skeptical of this claim, unfortunately, the OSS and CIA havae a long history of bungled exploits, and it is not clear that when the dust settles on the history of thie era whether on balance they will not have been found to have done an awful lot more harm than good in WWII and the Cold War.
Donovan would have done what he was told to. Consider who was C-in-C at the time. Truman would ultimately be accountable for Patton’s criticism of entertaining communist interests.
Hold on there now chief. Patton was from the same crowd as Chesty Puller. Southern boys who had civil war heritage and new how to fight and win a battle. If you read books on Chesty ( Lewis Puller) who was the most decorated marine ever ( real medals for true valor and initiative)he was a true American hero but pointed out real problems with command and sometime wondered what the hell was going on. He saw problems with touchy feely politics ( as Patton did) and was uneasy about it. These guys had inside info from allot of big wigs and who knows what they heard. Seems Big Brother may have been around for a long time and look at us today.
