Channel 4 says 36 injured. It sounds like an aborted take-off from the report. Fire is out.

DIA has been a scam from day 1. I pray no one is hurt.

Very long runways at DEN. Incredible that the plane would go off the end of the runway.

Not incredible if it was an aborted take-off though, no?

I don’t pay too much attention any more; I’ve got the thing practically memorized. BUT, I do buckle up at all times and I always check where exits are and make plans for evacuation.

I do a lot of flying over the ocean and I always check under the seat for my life jacket. I was returning from the South Pacific and was on the last leg of a 50-hour travel. I was very tired. The leg was just a short hop from Minneapolis to Atlanta. I reached under my seat to check for the life preserver. IT WASN’T THERE! Total panic set in. I checked the seats next to me and there weren’t any there. I was just about to call the stewardess and ask for one when I realized, the only water we would travel over was the Ohio and Tennessee Rivers. LOL!

I calmed back down and laughed at myself the rest of the trip.

No, the 737-500 is a relatively small plane with a short takeoff roll, even at DIA. I suspect that the plane was at takeoff speed or greater when the decision was made to stop.

Thanks, lily...

From the link:

8:15pm: KCNC is reporting that the plane went off the end of the runway at the Denver International Airport.

8:07pm: KCNC is reporting the aircraft is a Boeing 737 thought to be Continental flight 1404.

According to Continental’s website, the flight was scheduled to depart at 6:00pm MT and arrive in to Houston International (IAH) at 9:18pm CT.
++++++++
Aborted takeoff attempt. Depending on when the pilot started the abort, this was probably very close to being a bad crash.

Yep, and we probably can recite the sequence by heart. Gotta guard against complacency, though. Sounds like you are doing a good job of that.

I take it that DHMC is Denver Health Medical Center and TMCA is The Medical Center of Aurora?

Of course, those rivers might be the choice of landing spots if you were to go down.

Fly in and out of DIA pretty often.

It sounds as tho might have been a mechanical issue that didn’t allow the plane to lift off.

Once at Dallas Love Field I was on board a Braniff 727 which made what seemed to me to be a very hard stop during an aborted takeoff due to somebody getting in the way. We turned around, went back and started the next attempted/successful takeoff right away. I had just been reading a B-52 manual which put a lot of emphasis on procedures for brake cooling after an abort. Had to wonder what would have happened if we had to do a second abort. Brake fires can be bad news.

Channel 4 says 36 injured.

That sounds right, but one is still a red. Others downgraded to yellow or green.

“DIA has been a scam from day 1”

Thats for sure, i’ve only been there once on a commerciaa flight and hope I never have to do it again.

Landed at Stapleton a couple of times but always private and that airport was very convienent.

Jefco was my preference but when it’s covered with snow, plowed 40’ wide with 5’ snow banks since my wingspan was 37’ I opted for Stapleton.
