The Fred Thompson Show, hosted by the former U.S. Senator will replace The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly on radio stations nationwide -

NEW YORK, Dec. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Westwood One is pleased to announce the debut of The Fred Thompson Show on March 2, 2009. The show will replace The Radio Factor with Bill O'Reilly when the program ends its successful six-year run on February 27, 2009. Former U.S. senator and 2008 presidential candidate, Fred Thompson will share his views on politics, topical issues, pop culture and water cooler stories, as well as welcome guest interviews and take listener calls. The Fred Thompson Show will be a two-hour daily talk show and will air live Noon-2pm, Monday - Friday from the Westwood One studios in Washington DC.

"There is no prerequisite for a great talk show host, but if I were going to make one up, senator, presidential candidate, federal prosecutor, radio commentator, film and TV star would be a pretty good start," said Bart Tessler, EVP Westwood One News & Talk Programming.

"When folks listen to a radio show, they make an appointment with it. It is the ideal way for me to continue my dialog with America about the issues we all face each day," said Thompson.

"Senator Thompson is a perfect fit for radio," said Gary Schonfeld, President of Westwood One Networks. "His unique set of qualifications will make him a huge hit with both listeners and advertisers."

Too bad his show is scheduled for the same time Rush is on. Fred, I love ya, guy—but there’s no way you’re going to make a dent in Rush’s audience.

If its so successful, then why is it going off the air?

Way to cash in on a piece of the conservative pie, Fred.

Think you can stay awake?

The only negative part is that he will be on opposite Rush. Wish it was during my morning or evening drive time. When Fred fills in for Paul Harvey he’s fantastic. Common Man, Common Sense.

Probably - because O’Reilly is on from 9-11 PST.

My boss has given me the gift of Rush 24/7, so I watch the ditto cam and get to hear all the old Shanklin stuff at the breaks, but when he starts going off color, or talking golf, I go to this site, which also gives times for shows that are not aired live. http://radio.findanisp.com/radio-shows-on-air.php I'll definitely be giving Fred a shot.

I think Rush has sucked of late, the old Rush is long gone and the new incarnation has been highly ineffective. I’d welcome a conservative voice who isn’t a self centered fool who can’t keep a marriage together.

Hopefully Fred will do what the Great One does and make a podcast available (ideally FREE) off iTunes. I can’t listen to Levin in his time slot but I really enjoy listening to the podcast on BART (especially going through Berkeley!).

Tisk, tisk, Sarge. Not very nice, not nice at all. I thought I was in DU.

“Think you can stay awake?”

I was going to say, expect a ton of “fill-in hosts” and “pre-taped guest interviews”

After three months, I am betting the title is changed to “The Fred Thompson Show, hosted by Mitt Romney.”

After six months, Fred won’t even show up to the studio anymore, he’ll just call in to his own show two or three times a week.

It will be on in Dallas at a different time... if it has the same slot as O’Reilly did.

Love Fred, couldn’t stand O’Reilly.

Rush is the best though.

I've learned to listen to Rush knowing when to tune him in and out. Usually, I'm streaming him and doing other things at the computer while he's doing his thing.

Having said that--when Rush is right he's very right. And just by listening to the inflection of his voice, I can tell when to tune in and out.

If they would stream Fred, that would be great, too!
