In a sprawling interview with 60 Minutes last night, California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger dropped a not-so-subtle hint to Republicans: get busy changing the Constitution because Ahnold has his eyes on the White House. Asked by Scott Pelley if he'd like to be president, Schwarzenegger responded in no uncertain terms:
"Yeah, absolutely," Schwarzenegger acknowledged. "I think that I am always a person that looks for the next big goal. And I love challenges. I always set goals that are so high, that are almost impossible to achieve. Because then, you're always hungry for climbing and climbing. Because it's always interesting. The climb is always interesting. When you get there you just have to pick another goal."
Schwarzenegger was, of course, not born in the U.S.A. so it would take some rule changing before he's able to launch a presidential bid. I'm sure Californians, myself included, would like to see the governor make good on his campaign promise to chip away at the Golden State's epic budget shortfall before he starts looking for a promotion.

Like a lot (but not all Republicans), I was pleased to see Schwarzenegger win the Governors office in the recall election and then win re-election.
But Arnold has gone off the ranch just one too many times for me. Although I suspect his allegiances are with the GOP, several of his policy stances don’t point in that direction.
And frankly, there’s no way that Arnold is gonna get the Constitution changed. He’d be better off running against Feinstein or Boxer.

Does he have any idea how LONG it takes to change the Constitution? Or any idea how complex it is for a Constitutional Amendment?
They’ve been trying for 30 years to pass the Equal Rights Amendment.
America is not going to spend the next 10-30 years to change the Constitution to benefit one man.
We don’t need to change the Constitution. Ahhnold just needs to change parties. If he hasn’t already.
That section of the Constitution has already been suspended, resulting in acceptance of the nascent obama regime, with their non-citizen figurehead titular head.
Merely one step on the way to disregarding the Constitution altogether.

On the domestic spending/limited government side, this would be George Bush on steroids. Exactly what we don’t need unless, of course, we want to kill the Republican Party once and for all.

The real reason Obama’s citizenship was never really questioned by the GOP, notwithstanding all the smoke.

First, he is not a hero. Second, doing an action movie where there is no bodily risk is not heroism. Real heros generally are not paid millions of dollars to playact. They sacrifice, many time their all.
Okay, I’m willing to let go of the no foreign born citizens rule, as long as we can put another one in place that makes you ineligible if the majority of people can’t spell your name.:)
Changing the Constitution takes time, which Arnold does not have. However, if he runs as a Senator as a Republican, he would be to the right of both Boxer and Feinstein, on at least some issues. He has made a terrible chief executive (governor), because he has tried to make everyone like him, and has failed.
I don’t mind very much the idea of amending the Constitution to allow naturalized citizens to be president. But I wouldn’t vote for Schwarzenegger. He can go make another Predator for all I care.
