A lot of fairly well-known public companies either disappeared or went bankrupt this year. Circuit City is on the list. Based on the most recent news GM may get added soon.
24/7 Wall St. looked at some of the largest and most well-known companies, reviewed their SEC filings if they are public, analyst reports, and media observations about their businesses and picked ten that probably won’t be around at the end of next year. That does not mean that their brands will disappear, but these companies will have been dissolved as the world knows them now or working though the court system in the hopes of getting Chapter 11 protection and a chance at survival.

Sorry to see that RiteAid is on the list. They bought out Brooks Pharmacy in Montpelier and closed it, so if they go belly up there will no longer be a discount pharmacy anywhere in town.

Not demeaning our concerns, but it seems to me that drug stores are way over built. This was bound to happen - it's just which one went down first.
I don’t wish to see any company go out of business. Better to wish for them to turn things around a do well.
If Circuit City goes under, I won’t have a convenient place to go to sample my electronics before buying them for cheaper elsewhere on the internet.
They keep running stuff like the article posted on Newsbusters, and they will not make it to New Years

Worked good for satellite TV. My rates have almost tripled and I SYILL get the commercials.
No commercials for music on Sat radio. But if you like talk formats, you get the commercials.
1) Chrysler already says it will be out of business by early next year. But, what does that mean. It is unlikely that its largest shareholder, hedge fund Cerberus, is going to throw good money after bad in an economy where US car sales are dropping 30% compared with 2007 figures. But, the Chrysler brand could be around. So could the brand of its Jeep division. Foreign car companies like VW and Honda (HMC) would love to get well-known operations without the baggage of debt, UAW contracts, and dealer networks. Chrysler still has some popular models including it 300 series cars and it created the minivan. Jeep is regarded as the grandfather of four-wheel drive. Watch Chrysler Motors LLC go away and some of its products move into other hands.

Same thing they did with television.
They suckered all the people.
Tell everyone how great "Pay/cable TV" is, tell them cable has more channels, NO commercials etc.
Then when the scheme is forced on everyone, the GD thing is nothing but commercials, and they got all the suckers to pay to watch *their* own commercials.
Force them to not only watch commercials, but get these suckers pay to watch them!
This is one of the biggest frauds ever.

It's like an electronic photo .. disappearing before my eyes, the pixels flickering .. changing color, no longer part of the overall picture (get it?), and soon vanishes as a picture .. to be replaced by a red X ... or perhaps a red star.
And most insidious, we display with glee ... "Look, a red star!" ... because we've been conditioned to think that red star is a picture of our honey.
God help me.
BTW ... another thought that keeps from sleeping properly ...
"They" rely on the, "Good, AIG is gone" comments to assuage any saddening anger that might induce attempted corrective action.
