The founder of a hedge fund that invested more than $1 billion with Bernard Madoff has been found dead at his Manhattan office.
A source told NBC News Tuesday afternoon that Rene-Thierry Magon de la Villehuchet slit his wrists with a boxcutter and bled to death. He was sitting at the desk in his office at 509 Madison Ave., and sleeping pills were found nearby, the source said.
de la Villehuchet was despondent after having lost as much as $1.4 billion in Madoff's alleged Ponzi scheme, according to a French business newspaper, which quoted a family member of de la Villehuchet: "(He) could not cope with the pressure following the outbreak of the scandal ... This is a farewell from someone who had done nothing wrong."

Tragic... But to quote the sheriff in Fargo, “There is more to life than a little bit of money”.

I know I am going to be blasted from FRiends on here when I say this, but I truly believe this guy should be charged also with manslaughter. Ducking for cover.....lol.

The reality of what this guy did is setting in. It's no joke.
But for me, the real question is: how come Bernie gets to sit "at home"? Is there a dime this guy made that wasn't theft? If so, who owns the "home"? If he had been busted with some drugs or guns, by now the asset forfeiture team would have taken possession and auctioned it off in a lot of jurisdictions.
It may be decades before they unravel all of his finances. But why should be the biggest thief in human history be treated with such deference right now?

He was a fund “manager” who off loaded his responsibilities to a crook. I’d say he failed in his due diligence.

Exactly.
This was a very sad ending for someone who apparently did not realize that.

You mean Madoff? Yes, he should be charged with manslaughter for every suicide committed by anyone who lost money to his Ponzi Scheme. What a louse Madoff is.
I wonder if it would make his investors feel better if they could each "bleed" him so that his death would be a slow painful process, one cup of blood at a time. Can't get blood from a turnip, but you can surely get it from a Madoff.
Would YOU buy anything from this man?

There’s no way this guy pulled this off by himself. Somewhere there’s a pot of gold hidden (probably many) waiting for someone to pick it up.
Bernie, bad guy though he is, is taking the fall for some others.

Suicide is dumb in general, but I’ve always thought that suicide over losing money is especially stupid. It’s not like you can’t still be happy without money. You lost a billion dollars? Big freakin’ deal. All over the world there are billions of people getting by just fine without ever having had so much as a thousand dollars... hell, a hundred dollars. Get a life! Literally.

...and that POS Madoff still walks the Earth.
