Back to work as a U.S. senator, John McCain plans to take up an old fight [legis. to protect boxers]

For most politicians, boxing is a metaphor. But it never has been for John McCain. Hillary Clinton waved Kelly Pavlik’s gloves during a primary stop in Youngstown, Ohio. It was symbol, a photo op, for a candidate who wanted to be seen as a fighter.

But gloves are no symbol for McCain.

McCain has worn them.

The former Naval Academy boxer says he intends to take up an old fight as he resumes the daily rounds of work as Arizona’s senior senator after the Republican nominee lost in a bruising campaign to Democrat Barack Obama for president.

FTA:

THE RING: You are a big sports fan. Why boxing? Where does boxing rate among your favorites?

McCain: "I think it has always had a special place for me. As you know, I was mediocre. But I loved to box...You know, I’m a proud conservative. But I also feel there is a role for government with the people – and this is not an entirely accurate description – who are from the lowest rung of our economic ladder. Many times, they are exploited. So, it appeals to that part of my nature that always roots for the underdog."

Earth to Juan: you *still* are mediocre. Oh, and you're not a conservative, dammit.

THE RING: You fought as lightweight at the Naval Academy. Describe yourself as a boxer.

McCain: "Oh I was just a slugger, a little bit like my political career. A lot of wild swings. A lot of misses."

Swings...misses...and still no strawberries.

Why is this a government function? It’s not like boxers are flying planes or performing brain surgery.

Let the professional boxing association deal with this stuff. Even if it is staffed by people who have taken a few too many blows to the head, it is probably more competent than our current Congress.

How could “people who have taken a few too many blows to the head” be LESS competent than our current Congress? At least the former were trying to earn an honest living.

Would the good republicans of Arizona PLEASE send this fossil to where he belongs in the next primary? McCain is probably one of the worst things to happen to the republican party during the past 20 years.

I’m afraid that McCain has not yet begun to infuriate us. He’ll be “reaching across the aisle” like never before.

I just hope J. D. Hayworth is planning a challenge.

I’m afraid you are right. He’ll want to get revenge on all those conservatives who didn’t see his Divine Aspect.

Is this the McCain, "Why I am & always was a LOSER!", article?

Oh God, let me count the ways!

Maybe we’ll see some legislation entitled “The McCain-Kerry Irrelevant Losers Act of 2009”, requiring the major political parties of failed presidential candidates pay attention to them.

J.D., or whoever else is planning on challenging McMaverick in primaries, should announce their candidacy NOW, and plan on being a “Shadow Senator” at home. When Mac does something, like “crossing the aisle”, there should be an immediate price to be paid in the state, a publicity and a challenge from “Shadow Senator”.

That’s the only way to:
1) keep the check on Senators and Representatives, because it’s the job that American media just won’t do
2) introduce a possible replacement to the people of the state / district for general elections, and to Republicans / conservatives for purposes of successful primary challenge

This doesn’t apply just to McCain, but anywhere in generally conservative states and districts represented by marginally conservative Republican Senators and Representatives. We lose too many seats in conservative areas to so called “conservative Democrats” because we can’t make headway in primaries to defeat the Good Ole Boys.

Primaries is where conservatives can and should make their voices and wishes known, but they have to start “familiarity process” early on in challenging marginal but established candidates.

Democrats have been much better at taking risks and they have been rewarded. We have done well, too, when we took what looked like risks. Just look at recent elections in Louisiana.

NOW is the time to identify marginal or “tired” Republicans and weak and/or “conservative” Democrats and get ready (start) to challenge them in next elections.

Round 15 (final round) *DING DING*

McCain corner: "C'mon Mac, get out there, he's wobbly, he's shaky, only 1-1/2 years experience in the Senate, you can take him out this round!"

McCain: "Ahhhh I dunno, that would be mean spirited, to knock out Barack like that, he's not such a bad guy..."

McCain corner: "WHAAAT are you SAYIN' Mac?!? That boy is going to knock YOU out if you don't unload on him with that classic McCain Skyhawk-Left-Right-Left Combo! You gotta HIT him Mac, hit him HARD! [**splashin'** some water in his face]

McCain: "I'm still not sure, I see THREE of him out there, which one do I cross the aisle for in the spirit of bipartisanship?"

McCain corner: "NO! NO! NO! Ya don't 'cross the aisle', ya hit him with the right cross, then an Ayers, then another right cross, then a Wright-uppercut, then another Ayers, and he'll be goin' DOWN!"

McCain: "I think what we need in this final round is to reach out to Barack and all my dear friends in his corner..."

McCain corner: "Mac, even Jerry Cooney put up a fight!"

McCain: "He didn't win either, and Larry Holmes wasn't such a bad guy"

McCain corner: "Larry Holmes ISN'T such a bad guy, he's still alive, unlike YOU, politically anyway!"

McCain: "Can I take the dive now?"
