Blagojevich's Lawyers Want Obama Aides To Testify
Illinois Governor's Lawyers Issue Letter Calling For Subpoenas
Dec 24, 2008 3:00 pm US/Eastern

CHICAGO (CBS); In a dramatic development in the ongoing impeachment proceedings, lawyers for Gov. Rod Blagojevich want two key aides to President-elect Barack Obama and U.S. Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. to testify before the House impeachment committee.

Sources tell CBS station WBBM-TV that a letter sent by Blagojevich's lawyers to committee chairman, State Rep. Barbara Currie, asks that the committee subpoena Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and Jackson.

On Tuesday, a transition official disclosed that Obama, Emanuel and Jarrett, have been interviewed in connection with the federal investigation into Blagojevich. The transition official, speaking on a condition of anonymity, also confirmed that Emanuel had been captured on wiretaps taken as part of the investigation.

Blagojevich was charged on Dec. 9 with plotting to use his governor's authority to appoint Obama's Senate replacement and make state appointments and contracts in exchange for cash and other favors. He has denied any criminal wrongdoing and has resisted multiple calls for his resignation, including one from Obama.

In an internal review, released on Tuesday by Obama's team, found that Emanuel was the only Obama adviser to talk to Blagojevich and his top aide, John Harris. The two men have been arrested as part of a federal corruption investigation.

Emanuel had one or two conversations with Blagojevich and four with Harris on the subject of the Senate seat, according to the review.

The report said Obama authorized Emanuel to pass on the names of four people he considered to be highly qualified to take over his seat - Illinois Comptroller Dan Hynes, Illinois Veterans' Affairs Director Tammy Duckworth, Rep. Jan Schakowsky and Jackson Jr.

You know if they started jailing some of these political clowns; we might get somewhere.

Hillary and Bill should be the first.

Did you know all of Obama's transition team lawyered up? Craig rarely spoke to any of them in person. He talked to their lawyers instead. He'd ask a question to a lawyer and have to wait for the lawyer to get back with an answer. You won't see this in the MSM.

“Emanuel had one or two conversations with Blagojevich”

A poster yesterday noted that Rahm’s home is about 150 yards from Blogo’s office. I’d like to see the visitor’s log from the Guv!

Many thanks. Obammy was arrogantly stupid to deny contact w/Blago when, as you show, he obviously did. When our prez elect lies about inconsequential things, what can we expect when the stakes are consequential?

I thank Jim Rob for FR everyday.

I have a bad feeling about this whole deal. 0bami and his
gang are a little to cocky. I wouldn't be surprised at all
if this isn't a theatrical set up to make ‘0’ out to be
above all of this scandal stuff.

Maybe I'm just over analyzing this whole thing, but I don't
trust this outfit at all. Too teflon for me, and the media
cover a little too much.

Somehow I think the “officials” are going to keep those skeletons buried and keep Blago from becoming one. They’re just one big happy crime syndicate. Who’s to question them?

Welcome aboard.

Obama thinks Tammy Duckworth is “highly qualified” to sit in the US Senate?!?!?!?!?!

The best efforts of the local and national media couldn’t convince the liberals in Illinois to elect that whackjob, so Blago gave her the Veteran Affairs job to pad her resume and as a reward for being one of the few Iraqi Freedom veterans to schill for the Dems publicly against the military. I would say she is about as qualified as Al Franken to serve in the Senat... umm nevermind.
