Casinos might owe Fry's for exec's losses ($65 million kickback scheme)
San Fran Chronic ^ | December 24, 2008 | Matthew B. Stannard, Chronicle Staff Writer

For years, Ausaf Umar Siddiqui lived big in Las Vegas, gambling and losing millions of dollars - including money the Internal Revenue Service now says was embezzled through a $65 million kickback scheme he engineered as a Fry's Electronics vice president.

Should the casinos have suspected something was wrong prior to Siddiqui's arrest Friday?

"At what point or under what circumstances should the casinos be held accountable?" posited William Eadington, director of the Institute for the Study of Gambling and Commercial Gaming at the University of Nevada, Reno. "I wouldn't be at all surprised if Fry's lawyers are all over this."

Fry's spokesman Manuel Valerio said Wednesday that it is too early to say whether the company will seek compensation from Siddiqui, who was fired Monday, or from anybody else. "Fry's would always retain the right to explore options to make itself whole, as appropriate," he said.

Legal and gambling experts say trying to hold casinos liable for Siddiqui's alleged acts would be a long shot, dependent on proving the casinos knew or should have known that something was amiss.

People have sued casinos in the past for alleged irresponsibility, such as the Indiana gambler who sued a casino in 2002 for failing to keep him away from the tables, leading him to rob banks to support his gambling habit. Or the Northern California woman who sued two Nevada casinos in the 1980s, saying they knew she was a terrible blackjack player and should have told her to take classes to learn how to play the game.

Imagine this guy sharing a prison cell with Bernie Madoff. They would get along famously. Exchanging a few tricks of the trade

Any similarities to holding bartenders responsible for customers who get drunk and get in accidents?

Have you ever been in a Fry’s Electronics Store? We have one near us in Arlington, Texas. The staff is 97% Muslim, Arab, Pakistani, Indonesian, African, Iranian and Bosnian for the most part. If I were the F.B.I., I’d have all kinds of double agents and informants in each of them.

A few years ago Fry's announced they would build an Islamic Center in south San Jose to bring in Islamic “mathematicians.” Does anyone know if that actually took place?

Oh, I don’t do business with them. Once I saw the lay of the land, as it were, I grabbed my wife and beat feet. I would no more do business with Jihadis than I would with Nazis or Communists.

I tend to personally be monotheistic like the Arabs, But, I believe in the Son, and the Holy Ghost as well(Nope I aint catholic, I just see it)

I dont want to get into a long theological discussion particularly on the morning of this brilliant gift,

But I just dont think these Arabs are particularly pious.

I would venture to say that their religion is in need of a serious vetting

For enthusiasts and nerds Fry's is an electronics& computer Mecca. Therefore it's only fitting that Muslims run it. Or at least part of it

Good point. Why, indeed. If they keep it knowingly, they should be done for Receiving and Conversion.

Why should the Casinos get to keep stolen money?
Because the Criminals that own Casino’s also own a few US Congressional seats, Senator Reid, RAT/AZ is a prime example.
