Life for the First Children (Obama Children, Not the Palin Kids)

Life for the First Children By Derrick Z. Jackson Globe Columnist / December 26, 2008

With some minor irony, the longer version of "Santa Claus is Coming to Town" talks about Santa bringing "curly-head dolls that toddle and coo." So far, these girls, who are about to give curly hair an unprecedented place in American history, have done nothing but warm American hearts. Much has already been made of the potential of Barack and Michelle Obama being the ultimate Huxtable family of the old "The Bill Cosby Show." The incoming First Couple says they expect the First Children to do their chores and pick up the poop from their new puppy.

This guy is nuts. Yes, the kids are cute right now; but remember who their parents are.

Does Derrick need to borrow a drop cloth, kneepads and a chapstick, perhaps?

The Obamas are no Huxtables. The Huxtables had wonderful values, represented what this country is about, and were good people.

It’s just too bad the Huxtable family was fictional and the Obamas are “real.”

Yes, the Obama kids are cute. But, I have to say the older daughter Malia has a look on her face that often reminds me of Michelle. Unnngh. Hopefully it’s just a phase.

The Bush twins Jenna and Barbara were famously busted early in dad George W. Bush's first term for underage college drinking. Jenna, who flouted the law the most...

Yeah, they just had to get that in there, didn't they? At least they gave her credit for growing up and going on to bigger and better things.

I am buying stock in Tagament and Nexium - the ulcers and reflux issues over the next eight years will keep those evil corporations in business.

I see a plus side to this fiasco if that's possible. I believe the africanhyphenamerican race is going on a witch hunt in an effort to put the white man down. An ahyphena talk format station I listen to in the Detroit area features veiled and not so veiled attacks on "them", "caucasians" (if they're feeling charitable I guess), and "Europeans" by callers and the host on a daily basis. Columns like the one that are the inspiration for this thread have begun to appear more and more. We saw it recently with the homo-erotic photos of Zero at the beach.

I think the potential exists for even some perpetually apologetic white liberals to get to the point where they've had enough and reject the Maobamas and what they represent fairly quickly. The excesses are going to be very painful to be sure.

In a many years past working environment I was in close contact with faux aggrieved ahyphenas on a daily basis. Hollering racisim was an almost foolproof way for them to get jobs and benefits that they didn't have the intelligence to merit. Called out for being late or absent for work with no reason--racism. Didn't do the job assigned--racism. Came to work drunk--racism. Urinate in a coffee cup because its too much trouble to go to the restroom 100 feet away--must be racism.

Yeah, they just had to get that in there, didn't they?

Of course, but it illustrates the biggest difference between the two families: the Bushes are human: they laugh, they cry, they screw up and most importantly, they have the ability to laugh at themselves. The girls avoided the spotlight as much as they could throughout their father's career. Laura stayed out of governmental affairs.

Obama has no sense of humor, only a biting, condescending sarcasm (e.g. Nancy Reagan and speaking to the dead).  Michelle is perpetually angry and totally joyless, except in the satisfaction of besting others. The girls will be paraded out as props, as they have been during the campaign. And neither of the Obamas will tolerate being mocked.

It's going to be a depressing four years in many more areas than the economy.

...potential of Barack and Michelle Obama being the ultimate Huxtable family of the old "The Bill Cosby Show."

Puke.

Give me a freakin' break.

I don't care about the kids.

I don't care about the wife.

I don't care if he smokes or not.

I don't care about his "pecs".

The color of his skin means nothing to me.

Anything, anything personal about the POS and his family and his habits mean nothing whatsoever to me.

I just want the POS to exercise his presidential responsibilities in a capable and competent manner.

Is that too damn much to ask?

Obama is a black man (actually mixed race) who has actually married and stayed married to the mother of his children, who appear to be well cared for by their parents. I'll give him and Michelle Obama credit for that, and it would be great if such behavior became a norm in black America. It would be good for taxpayers and blacks themselves.

They should leave the kids out of the politics.

That means don’t bad mouth them, It should also mean don’t write sickening sweet barf stories about them either. They are kids , like anyone Else’s kids ,they will get enough scrutiny without journalists sucking on Obama’s back side by writing cutesy stories.

Agreed.

But I believe the sheet is about to fall off the sculpture and reveal an ugly scene.

Obama's friends and family (Ayers and his beloved cousin Odinga come to mind) are not the stuff of family values. They can only stuff the skeletons in the closet for so long.....

THAT is a bad role model for the AA crowd.

What I meant was as people they are nothing like the Huxtables.

I'd like to hang out with the Huxtables; I would NOT like to hang out with the Obamas, LOL.
