Twilight of the Clods: McClatchy VP Goes Berserk
NewsBusters ^ | December 26, 2008 | P.J. Gladnick

The McClatchy publishing company is more and more beginning to resemble an isolated bunker in the final stages of Götterdämmerung as ugly reality, such as their 99% stock price plunge, closes in on both fronts. Inside the bunker a leader is screaming madly, conjuring up phantom armies to ward off the unpleasant facts facing his company. However, in this case their ranting leader in the bunker isn't McClatchy CEO Gary Pruitt who is probably already quietly contemplating his permanent exile with his surfboard off the coast of Satellite Beach but Howard Weaver (photo), the outgoing VP of News at that company. So what set off this latest outburst in the closing act of the Twilight of the Clods? According to McClatchy Watch, it was a Web post by Jeff Jarvis at the Buzz Machine commenting on the fiscal woes of the newspaper industry including McClatchy:

Twilight of the Clods. But is it tragedy or comedy? Or a bit of both?

When the McClatchy paper, Star-Telegram in Ft Worth, closes I will be in the parking lot doing the happy dance. Not saying they sold out to the left wing of the democrat party but even the sports page had nice things to say about Obama. Sad part is they are proud of their bias, not realizing that the only product they have is credibility and that is gone.

It’always high drama to watch the leftist spittle flying, the denunciations of all who betrayed them, the deranged hopeless prophecies of ultimate victory when imaginary armies of investors all converge at the McClatchy Bunker to throw buckets of 100 dollar bills at Pruitt and Weaver, oh it’s all comedy, nothing at all tragic about another left-wing mouthpiece about to go *BURP* down the toilet, LOL

...I’ll be glad when the Charlotte Observer is silenced...their editors/reporters are right up there with Hollywood and the Academy when it comes to anti-Americanism.

The Rock Hill Herald can go with it. One of the worst newspapers I have ever read.
