Lawyers for Blagojevich want to subpoena Rahm Emanuel, other Obama aides

News reports on Friday morning indicated that lawyers for disgraced Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich (D) want want the Illinois House of Representatives to subpoena 14 aides to President-elect Barack Hussein Obama.

A report on Fox News indicated that the attorneys want to have a number of high-profile Obama aides, including Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), Valerie Jarrett, and Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Ill.), and others to testify for the defense in the ongoing impeachment proceedings in Illinois. Gov. Blagojevich is accused of conspiring to sell Obama’s senate seat to the highest bidder, an act considered illegal even in Illinois.

A report on the letter by Blagojevich’s attorney was also published in the Chicago Sun-Times.

Obama has flip-flopped on his story about contacts with Blagojevich’s staff, initially saying there had been no contact with them, then no “inappropriate contact.”

Obama has a decade-long relationship with Blagojevich and helped him win election and re-election as Illinois governor, heading his campaign in 2002. Emanuel holds Blagojevich’s old Senate seat.

Clearly, Blago has a right to call any witnesses he wants to defend himself in the impeachment proceedings. Where are the Democrats on defendants' rights with this?

I think the rub here is in the possible fact that obombanation doesn’t like blagojvich selling something that doesn’t belong to him. In obombanation’s mind the seat belongs to obombanation and no one but him has the right to sell it.

Sounds like they are trying to de-populate Chicago.

This is how Blojobavich will get off; some of those who are being called to testify on his behalf will eventually claim some sort of executive privilege or other immunity from testifying. Fitzy blew this case from the beginning by not waiting for money to pass hands, he obviously didn’t want to involve the Great One in this scandal, he likely feared for his life if he did.

As them smell gets closer to the Big Zero... the Dems fear these distractions swirling around their hero - makes them very nervous. It might distract Zero from implementing his spread the wealth programs.

I live near Chicago, and I hope that Chicago is de-populated, since the majority of the people, who would leave, are Democrats.

The action by the supposed objective prosecutor shows US what will happen with the Obama ‘natural born citizen’ issue ... those ruling the now defunk Republic will sweep it under the rug to avoid ‘confrontation’. The Democrap party runs a thugocracy and men like Fitz see the hand smearing crap ont he wall and know to step aside or be smeared under.

I don’t agree with you. Keep them all in Chicago. The rest of us don’t need to be infested with their corruption. But saying that there are some nice people there.

This is pretty smart. Everyone they call is going to say that there was no quid pro quo, because otherwise they would be participants in a crime along with Blago. They’ll have some explanation about how they were just talking about possibilities, not bargaining.

Remember, the Democrats managed to run Jim Traficant and Robert Toricelli out of office. Jim Traficant may have forced his congressional staff to work at his family’s horse farm. Robert Torricelli, by contrast, was never well-liked by his fellow senators.

So far as is known, Rod Blagojevich does not have a horse farm, but on the other hand, he is not necessarily well-liked by other Democrats back in Illinois. That may impact Blagojevich’s rights as a defendant.
