Why the Saltsman Scandal May Help Make Ken Blackwell RNC Chair (Ken calls it like it is)
AOL News ^ | December 28, 2008 | Matt Lewis

The Chip Saltsman/RNC Chair mini-scandal may prove to be more important than I initially thought. As is often the case in these matters, the specific incident is less important than the responses.

Recently, it has appeared that (partly as a result of Katon Dawson and Chip Saltsman coming under fire over racial issues) former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackell (disclosure: I am supporting Blackwell), had emerged from the pack to become a front-runner for RNC Chair.

... Still, though, the smart money was on current RNC Chair Mike Duncan to retain his position.

But in the wake of the Saltsman scandal, Duncan was highly critical of Saltsman, while Blackwell, an African-American, issued this statement:

"Unfortunately, there is hypersensitivity in the press regarding matters of race. This is in large measure due to President-Elect Obama being the first African-American elected president. I don't think any of the concerns that have been expressed in the media about any of the other candidates for RNC chairman should disqualify them. When looked at in the proper context, these concerns are minimal. All of my competitors for this leadership post are fine people."

Theodor R:

I,m not sure which he is. I really don’t think it matters. He is a “big tent” Republican. The Republican Party can’t stand too much more of them.

Question. There is a sentence in red that I don’t understand. “Loose Lips sink ships.” I understood that during WWII. What does it mean within this context? Should I be waiting for that knock on the door?

I remember Steele saying something that sounded as though everybody should understand why the majority of blacks voted for Obama. Well I am black and I do understand why. That does not alter the fact that Obama is a shallow, far left politician who did quite well in that sewer of a Chicago political machine.

That is all people need to know. He is no good. Because this jerk is black means little when you consider what he is going to do to this nation.

He’s got a head on his shoulders. In 2006 in Ohio, he was up against Soros and ACORN. The RNC didn’t have the organization to fight that.

And, a lot of people have left the state, moving to where the jobs are. This has left ‘others’ who can’t move. Lots of Unions. Lots of incoming Hispanics and Somalis. Then, Ohio took in some Katrina folks, too.

Very different mix here now. Have a look see at Realtytrac.com to see how well this state has been doing on foreclosures.

I don’t know what’s wrong with having a “big tent”. We should stand inside that big tent and welcome everybody who wants a strong military, a strong criminal justice system, civil rights for unborn humans, and wants government out of their wallets and out of their faces to the greatest extent possible. “Come on in! We have plenty of room in this big tent!”

The reason for that is a majority of conservatives have left the state and all the corruption in the republican party as of late.Ken Blackwell would do just fine as RNC chair.

Blackwell was Forbes’ national chairman for his 2008 run. As solid a conservative as they come. (Some may recall Sarah was a Forbes supporter.) He was the “before” Ohio SecState responsible for the Rat’s not stealing his state in ‘04 as the Rat SecState did in ‘08. Alas his run for the statehouse was pulled under by the corruption of the then incumbent GOP governor.

That is not the big tent RINOs are talking about. If it was then I want to be in it.

We are working hard to take the local party back to pre-big tent policies. That is long overdue.

Tom Tancredo for GOP Chairman. If ever there was a Republican who didn’t give a feces what Dems thought of him, it was Tancredo.

I consider myself fairly well-read politically, and I am aware of Duncan, Blackwell, Mehlman and Steele. But I never heard of Chris Saltsman in my life.

Steve Forbes didn’t run in 2008. Do you mean 2000?

Saltsman is a former TN GOP chair and was campaign chairman for Mike Huckabee. The fact that he was associated with Huckabee is probably reason number 1 that I don’t want him running the RNC.

because when you become a “big tent” you accept leftist policy, instead we should become a big tent in our way: by sticking to our principles (which are superior being CONSERVATIVE), then by leading..then we will draw in the wishy-washy.
