Congressman Rahm Emanuel will resign his congressional seat on Friday in anticipation of joining President-elect Barack Obama's administration.

Emanuel delivered the news in an automated call to constituents on Monday.

"This is Congressman Rahm Emanuel. As you may have heard, President-elect Obama has asked me to be his new chief of staff and I have accepted this offer. Therefore, in the near future, I will be resigning from Congress. ... I also want you to know, it has been a privilege and an honor to serve as your representative for the last six years," he says in the taped call.

Based on the ratio of U.S. Senators to Congresscritters, this seat should go for about 1/9 the cost of Obama’s Senate seat, right?

I may need to know this as I try to get some cash togather...

This guy is so perfect---he's downright scary.

================================================

QUESTION Did Rahm fillout the 63-count seven-page personnel application Obama gave to possible appointees? If so, how did Rahm outline his ties to financial institutions involved in the federal bailout? His activities on the Freddie Mac Board? Did Rahm ever email Madoff?

REFERENCE Emanuel resigned his position as an advisor to Bill Clinton, in 1998 to become a Wall Street investment banker with Wasserstein Perella, (now Dresdner Kleinwort), where he worked until 2002.

In 1999, Rahm became managing director at their Chicago office. According to Congressional disclosures, Emanuel made $16.2 million in his 2 1/2 year stint as a banker.

Amazingly, Rahm became a multi-millioniare overnight----and he was wasn't even voted "Most Likely To Succeed." (snicker).

At Wasserstein Perella, Rahm worked on eight deals, including the acquisition by Commonwealth Edison of Peco Energy and the purchase by GTCR Golder Rauner of the ecurityLink home security unit from SBC.

He then ran for Congress; luckily members of the securities and investment industry became his biggest backers, donating more than $1.5M to his campaigns dating back to 2002, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

Emanuel also leaned heavily upon the industry as 2006 Dem Congressional Campaign Committee Chair. Financial industry donors contributed more than $5.8M to the Dem committee, behind only retirees.

Pres Bill Clinton in 2000 named Emanuel to the Board of Directors for the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation ("Freddie Mac"). Rahm's position paid him $31,060 in 2000 and $231,655 in 2001. During the time Emanuel spent on the board, Freddie Mac was plagued with scandals involving campaign contributions and accounting irregularities. The Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight (OFHEO) later accused the board of having "failed in its duty to follow up on matters brought to its attention." Emanuel resigned from the board in 2001 when he ran for Congress.

Amazing career---stright-up trajectory---and he did it all by hisself (snicker).

In between Rahm's career choices, he won a coveted scholarship to the prestigious Joffrey School of Ballet.

**** I am just waiting for the liberal shoe to fall that everyone said would happen, but thus far it has not even been seen. ****

You missed this: Eric Holder, US Attorney General.

With the BATF now under the DoJ (Homeland Security Dept reorg), and with him at the helm we are screwed. He'll regulate Firearms and ammo out of existence. And he'll rescind on Day One, Dubya's DoJ stated policy that the 2A is an individual right.

He'll dance around 'Heller' anyway he can.

Emanuel would not do this unless they believe he will escape any criticism over the Blago scandal.

That sounds absolutely right... Emanuel (and Obama) must believe that Rahm is in the clear and home free...

There MAY be something fishy with the timing of this.

He wants to get out while Blago still has the legal authority to appoint his replacement, I expect.

I read this info., on www.politics1.com:
“Embattled Illinos Gov. Rod Blagojevich today announced for the IL 5 Special Election:
March 3rd: IL 5 Special Primary Election
April 7th: IL 5 Special General Election”
However, I don’t know when the candidates may get petition signatures. If you read that info., please tell me. I know the only conservative candidate, in that race, Rosanna Pulido, the founder and director of the Illinois Minuteman Project. She’s the only candidate, in that race, who is pro-life and pro-gun rights. Please read her site, www.rosannpulido2009.com.

Didn’t know that. Stinks to high heaven. I am sure Obambi and crew don’t object to the guy replacing him either. They just want to keep us out by hook or crook.

We don’t know who will replace Emanuel. About 15 Democrats and two Republicans are running.

I thought they couldn’t do that. The Gov. has the option to replace them?

No, no governor can replace a congressman. Whenever a congressman resigns or dies, at the beginning of his or her term, the governor, of that state, must choose a date for a special election. In 2008, ex-Rep. Hastert resigned, and a special election was held, in Illinois. Gov. Jindal, of Louisiana, resigned his congressional seat, and his district held a special election.
