Ain't this post-racial period great? Here we have one of the more famous members of the Black Congressional Caucus accusing Senate Democrats of threatening to act like Orville Faubus, George Wallace and perhaps the most iconic of segregationists, Bull Connor.
Bobby Rush, the former Black Panther who is now a congressman from Chicago, levelled his accusation on the CBS Early Show this morning in reaction to the letter signed by all 50 Senate Democrats declaring that they would not seat Roland Burris, the African-American that Gov. Rod Blagojevich yesterday named to take Barack Obama's Senate seat.

Indeed the term is wearing thin and I pray the public wakes up and turns a deaf ear once and for all. I foolishly hoped Obama's win would put it to rest and we'd see the last of the Sharptons and Jacksons but that doesn't appear to be the case.
The article contains the transcript of Rodriguez pointing that out to Rush. He stopped short of lumping Obama in with the Bull Connors of the Senate. But I also speculated that Rush might be taking some pleasure in putting a stick in the spokes of the guy who dared primary him for his congressional seat in 2000.
The Illinois SoS has said he will NOT certify the choice as required by the State’s constitution.
I believe that means the seat will stay vacant until the next election.

I think it won’t be long until the black racists start openly calling Obama an “Oreo.”
The real question is why did Burris accept? You think that BO could have reached out to him and asked him NOT to take it..promising him an appointment, or his endorsement when he ran for the seat. It’s curious also that during his comments, Burris did NOT say he was only a caretaker..which means he intends to run for the seat in 2010
Like the Dalibama and community organizing, his part in it was just pure and virtuous all rainbows, candy canes and lollypops.

Burris is quite politically ambitious. He is the first black to hold statewide office in Illinois. He probably truly wants to be senator, knows that Quinn (the lt. gov poised to take over from Blago) would not appoint him and he would not win in an open election. He is also as close to “honest” as you will likely get in Illinois politics. Much more so than Candidates 1-5.

Originally this was only an issue about about getting rid of a corrupt Governor, but now Blago has forced the ‘Rats to fight over playing the “race card” — amazing.
Hey Bobby Rush, maybe you should notice that it is Blago who made race an issue here — far be it from me to have any sympathy with the Demagogue Senators in DC, but when they signed their letter it was not about any particular candidate. The issue was whether Blago should or should not appoint anyone.
This is great entertainment.
I don’t see where the democrats were being racist. They said they would not seat anyone Blago appointed, long before Burris was appointed.
Of course this Bobby Rush can hardly speak intelligible English, that along understand what has been said beforehand.

According to Illinois law, Blago must appoint someone to fill the vacant senate seat. He has not been removed from office as yet, so he has fulfilled his duty as governor. The US Senate will have a hard time not recognizing Burris. For this reason.
He is a democrat. If they refuse they might force a special election and lose to a republican. The US senate cannot appoint their own senator, and they sure don’t want to lose a seat.
