We did support him and in 2003 I believed him and in 2005 I hoped he was elected for a reason. But now 2008 he is a pathetic failure (two elections) and we cannot defend him. In fact we must lump him with Pelosi and Obama are ‘more of the same’ publically. His socialistic actions :1)set a republican precident for Obama, 2) are setup in a way that makes republicans look like they only care for the rich (dems talking points) used for more tax rebates, and yet as leader of R party his deep unpopularity kills republicans in elections. His sellouts to illegals won NO mexican votes for viva McCain .

McCain lost the tax cut issue against Obama. GWB/republicans really convinced public they only care about the rich with the bailouts and massive gov contracts.

By the end of Obama’s term, the voters will have had such a bellyful of noxious government solutions

If only...but I seriously doubt that will happen. It will still be "Bush's fault". Regardless of the fact that Congress holds the purse strings and members of both parties, with rare exceptions, continue to throw good money after bad.

That my FRiend is not compromise, it's collusion.

The "conservative movement" got into bed with George Bush and the GOP and now lacks credibility.

Like McCain Finegold, Amnesty, Judges? The "conservative movement" expected the people we worked for, financed, and elected, to implement the agenda the pols said they supported. We were betrayed. Not by all certainly, but by just enough to sabotage the roll back of liberalism agenda that we elected them for. And the people that sabotaged the agenda were our own guys. I remember the shell shocked posts here about amnesty, the gang of 14, and McCain Finegold. No we didn't get into bed with them as you indicate, we were knifed in the back by the country club bunch.

I agree on what you mentioned. But I’m talking about probably the biggest “conservative” cause of all—Limited Government; Reducing Spending. Conservatives did not fight him on that. He spent like Lyndon Johnson and conservatives—both pundits and in Congress—went along in order to advance other agendas. Limited Government has to be the main pillar of conservatism or all else falls away.

Obama looked like a leader and the GOP like a follower ...........

You got that right. Candidate Obama solemnly talked about big ideas----McC looked like he was channeling Herbert Hoover.

Biggest disaster---the "open forum" debate McC insisted would show him at his best. Instead he looked like an over-the-hill Home Depot clerk mincing around looking for a paint stirrer.

The McC camp was handed huge political openings---as when Obama mentioned "spreading the wealth." We waited and waited for ads and statements to capitalize on this--------we got nothing.

======================================

Repubs were appalled to see Joe Lieberman shadowing McC, making sure he read from the punkneo script, while writing $100,000 checks to the Dims.....as LIEb pulled off his "bi-partisan scam."

RINO Rooty Ghiuliani was another disaster, forced on the party by the stupid punkneos. Loser Rooty spent $60 million and got one delegate (that he shared).

============================================

The next Repub leader MUST denounce the punkneos in no uncertain terms---we do not want the punks anywhere near our party or influencing Repub leadership---or, for that matter, influencng the US govt. The punks led us over the cliff into Iraq and foisted the amnesty atrocity on the nation. The punks cost taxpayers trillions of dollars. We have to wonder what the punk agenda really is.

The punks demonstrate a complete lack of American character--- the distinctly American character that strengthens the freedoms only Americans have.

Let's be clear............the punks are a danger to our system of government.

Conservatism is a movement, NOT a political party. The problems with conservatives is they made an emotional investment in a party and people who’s main goal was retention of party power regardless of principle. Conservatives have always been a mere faction pandered to by the RINO’s in charge to get our votes and quickly ignored after the elections. Conservatives need their own party instead of being just merely a faction in one.

RE :”The problem with the grass roots is that they have become complacent with government programs”

Yes that is true, and GWB fed them a few to get re-elected. But the Iraq war caused a big problem when it started to go badly, looked endless in 2005-2006 and no WMDs were found. The public was sold on WMDs. So what I heard even from moderate republicans was “If we didnt go into Iraq then we could afford...” repeating democrats talking points, and rising gas prices pissed them off too while we were spending so much in $$ and lives in Iraq. Iraq was sold as immediately necessary, an easy win and will pay for itself in oil. GWB got re-elected in 2004 on trust me I know how to win this. It was a long term PR disaster even if you think Iraq was key to WOT, you need to keep public convinced if you invade another country that did not attack us.

So I agree with your reply but GWB made things worse by putting all his chips on Iraq. Now if democrats were not planning massive spending because of deficits ala 1993, I would come to a different conclusion.

Conservatism is a movement, NOT a political party.

As Ronald Reagan said of the Democrats, I didn't leave them, they left me.

Conservatives need their own party instead of being just merely a faction in one.

We've started one. It is a closed association, not an open association like the existing parties.

Open associations by their very nature can only end up as watered-down useless nothings.

Also the push back by the GOP was terrible, soft and in some ways it made Obama look like a leader and the GOP like a follower

Ditto. Ditto and Ditto.

Problem 1:
The GOP leadership is soft. They would sooner drink battery acid and appear *mean spirited* than have any face-to-face confrontation with the Democrats. Mike Duncan of the RNC proved this yesterday when he denounced the Paul Shanklin parody song, 'Barack The Magic Negro'. And THEN he says that 'we' have to be more like the Democrats to win elections: Pander to anyone and everyone for their vote. And McCain!?! .. some 'warrior'. His entire campaign *strategy* may as well have been orchestrated by the French.

This shows that they are sissies. They have never been in a fight in their entire life so fail to see that contrarily, the Democrats are down-in-the-dirt street fighters who will do anything to win. The Dems are at war with "us" (and the 'US'). And while the GOP plays by 'The Marquess of Queensberry rules', the RATS are following Saul Alinsky, Karl Marx and Vlad Lenin.

The solution for the GOP is -- Wake up and realize this is a War and treat it as such. As Sun Tzu said over 2,500 years ago, and is still pertinent today:

  • All warfare is based on deception.
    and
  • If you know the enemy and know yourself you need not fear the results of a hundred battles.
Right now, the GOP doesn't know *the enemy* so winning any battle (election) is pure fantasy. As to using deception on the RATS, fugetaboutit, they always lead with their chins.

Problem #2: the Neocons (punkneos)
The Gop should send them packing to whence they came - back to the Democrat Party.

They admit they are still Social LIBERALS. They agree with the Dems on EVERYTHING. From Abortion, to Gun Control, to Open Borders and Big Government. They are leeches who grabbed onto the GOP for 'National Security Issues'. The problem is, its not the National Security of the USA they care about. Doug Feith is a prime example of that. He phonied so many documents (allegedly) to get us into Iraq, its treasonous. They want perpetual war and the gun running neocon Richard Perle would just love that! The neocons are a cancer on the USA.

~~~ GOP sissy and Neocon rant off ~~~
ps: As to Sun Tzu's: "All warfare is based on deception" quote. That has been proved over and over. From Alexander The Great against Persian King Darius III in 331 BC, to the Viet Cong. And to some extent, the "Insurgents" in Iraq.
The point I was trying to make is that there are no right wing activists to speak of.
The activist efforts on Free Republic just dribbled away into trivial insignificance. The opportunity was trashed by apathy.
The left chooses candidates when they are very young and then runs them through a rigorous training machine. Obama is one such, Bill Clinton another. Anita Hill was drug up by the scruff of her neck and carried off to college. She turned out to be substandard.
Winner of the Best Election Night Performance Award in the category of:
"I Know Nothing About this Republican Disaster."
"Thank you very much. I am very honored."
" But I could not have done it without the help of all the Davidians--David Frum,
Michael Gerson, David Brooks, Richard Perle, and my Dearest Daddy."
"I especially want to thank punkneo Douglas Feith for faking documents on his
home computer so we punkneos could dupe the president."
"Without Doug we would not have been able to transfer trillions of US dollars
into the Mideast, into the pockets of war profiteers, which enabled Richard Perle
to startup an oil business in Iraq with his cut."
Kristol added: "Making Iraq safe for Perle's business interests with US tax dollars was truly a noble punkneo effort."
