The FBI looked at everything - in totality - and said they could fly. All the pieces added up to "not terrrorists."

This seems to be a distinctly miority position in here, but I think tht AirTran crewed up big time on this one and deserves every bit of teh legal reaming it is about to get.

Okay, a passenger overhears something suspicious. The FBI is called in, does some checking and, finding no danger, recommends that the family be free to travel on. But never underestimate the power of airlines to be heartless bastards. They not only refused the investigating officers' recommendation, but refused to let the family fly again FOREVER. I understand that AirTran has had to backpedal on this last bit since the incident.

Well, according to some of the folks here, the guys on tv sounded like two idiots, which goes to show you how they let their biases cloud their judgment. The two I saw interviewed at length - a physician and an attorney, were both very pleasant and quite well spoken, aside from the fact that they appeared a bit nervous.

I can honestly say that when I board a plane, I look around to see who I'm boarding with, and I wouldn't hestitate to speak up if I heard or saw something suspicious. I'm not naive, but I'm also not for throwing away our civil rights. If you can deny civil rights to two generations of Americans born here, then we are all at risk. I especially appreciated the fact that they went out of their way to say that the FBI was very professional and treated them well.

I also don't have the hatred for every Muslim that many freepers have. I live in a large urban area, my kids go to school with a few Muslims, and some of our neighbors are Muslim, etc.

Thanks for commenting. I appreciate it.
