There is a push at the State Capitol to make sure Minnesota workers get paid if they take a sick day from work.

The Minnesota Paid Sick Days Coalition along with Sen. Ellen Anderson and Rep. John Lesch will unveil the Healthy Families, Healthy Workplace Act Friday.

Sen. Anderson and Rep. Lesch say sick workers cost employers in lost productivity while also spreading illness in the workplace.

leave to libtards to try to make the private sector as productive as the gubermint sector.

they need to both get lost in Iraq like Johnny Lesch did a few years back.

Why not just do away with private businesses and give everyone busy-work jobs with the state and federal governments?

I sure hope there is a provision in there requiring a doctor's statement for a sick day; you can't just toss out a juicy plum like a paid sick day and not expect the obamaites not to turn it into another entitlement.

I used to wonder why so many people were moving down south from those northern states, but I'm understanding it more every day...there are a lot of nuts running the place up there.

I’d just take my business to South Dakota. Everyone in MN with a business eventually will anyway.

at least those businesses in it to make money.

This is more or less what Wellstone had in mind; a good government job for everyone.

Or you'll be left with sole-proprietors and husband/wife LLC's for small businesses, and big businesses that already give sick leave to employees. In between? Nada. If a business does need to expand, it won't hire employees, it will contract out specific functions (think 1099's).

It's been my observation from the early 50's that where the cheese goes, the Rats follow.

Why is the crime rate rising in the suburbs, because all of the "targets" for crime moved to the suburbs. The cockroaches follow the scraps.

Not for nothing but I’ve started working in High Tech in 1978 starting at Digital Equipment Corporation and we laughed Union Reps out of the buildings. “Sick Days” have always been part of the deal. It wasn’t like we got paid for Unused Sick Days like the Hacks.

I suppose employers will have to reduce wages actually paid and divert a fixed percentage to the accrual of sick days. That's the way most private businesses do it. Of course, that doesn't work for "minimum wage" as you can't reduce below that level. It may mean a lot fewer people getting raises to compensate for the additional cost.

My company switched from accrued "sick" days to "comprehensive leave". Earned vacation days and sick days are lumped into "comprehensive leave". Stay well, and you get some extra days off. No need to "call in sick" when you really want to go hunting.

While I like for sick people to stay home and not get me sick, I am completely against the govt (Federal or otherwise) making laws pertaining to the agreement between employer and employee.

Yep - I'm retired military and now in the Civil Service. Despite the unions, we can have the civilians we supervise produce a doctor's slip for any sick days. It's not required for any illness that doesn't last over two days, but can be requested for any sick time and I have had to enforce it due to one of my folks abusing the system.

MN taxpayers are sure generous! It's hard to believe they are willing to pay for private sector workers sick days!
