December 31 -- An Iranian newspaper was closed by authorities after publishing a statement critical of the government's support for Hamas. The statement was made by a pro-reform student group to "Kargozaran," a paper affiliated with former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani [read more in Persian]. During a discussion of the Gaza conflict, a Radio Farda listener in Tehran calls Hamas an obstacle to peace [listen in Persian]. Another listener from Southern Iran wonders why the government is sending support to the Palestinians when there are so many problems at home [listen in Persian].

Although the faux regime-instigated "protests" by Basij (paramilitary Islamofascist thugs) "student" and rent-a-mob hoodlums in support of the Palis, the average Iranian (from poor to wealthy) despises Palestinians. Even more than Arabs like Iraqis or Kuwaitis hate Palestinians (and they hate them pretty bad).

The reason is not necessairly any affinity to Israel, but mostly exactly the quote given in the above article:

"Another listener from Southern Iran wonders why the government is sending support to the Palestinians when there are so many problems at home."

The social and economic policies of the regime are an utter disaster, yet they lavishly support the Palis.

Not to mention that Iranians see little point in supporting Sunni Arabs who neither share their language, blood, culture or religion.

It is the tip of the iceberg of discontent when even a pro-Rafsanjani (a disgusting islamofascist corrupt mullah) paper is critizing. Imagine what actual dissidents and discontented people must be thinking, but have no way to publish it.

Iran was a modern society that was becoming quite successful and then the mullahs came in and put a blanket of darkness over the land. War with Iraq and now much oppression later, the people are living in a hellhole.

Inflation and unemployment are quite high and that was before the price of energy dramatically fell.

The population as it exists now is facing a very bad future as the mullahs do not have any framework to support the country.

What that has spelled historically is war and my concern is that is what will be prescribed sooner or later. Iranian strategy demands that at some point the monies spent on Hezzbully and Hamas be used for some endgame against Israel.

Not sure what Israel can do to convince the mullahs in Tehran otherwise.
