WASHINGTON -- Vice President Dick Cheney said Sunday that Israel did not seek U.S. approval before a ground invasion against Hamas, the bloodiest Mideast clash in years now escalating into urban warfare.
From the White House to Capitol Hill, U.S. officials remained firmly behind Israel. They urged a cease-fire, but put the onus on Hamas, as Israeli troops and tanks cut through the coastal Gaza strip. U.S. lawmakers defended Israel's ground incursion as a justifiable response to Hamas rocket fire on Israel.
Cheney said Israel "didn't seek clearance or approval from us, certainly" before thousands of soldiers pushed into Gaza after nightfall on Saturday.
He did not directly answer whether Israel informed its powerful ally, the U.S., of its plans before launching them.

Who’s the headline writer for the Sac Bee?—Yoda?
Israel got the OK before attacking and invading. Last summer, from ‘Bammy:
“If somebody was sending rockets into my house where my two daughters sleep at night, I’m going to do everything in my power to stop that. I would expect Israelis to do the same thing.”
Like Israel really needs our permission......
What some people apparently don’t seem to understand is that Israel was ATTACKED!!!!!! They’ve been attacked several times for many years. They are doing what they should have done a loooooooooooong time ago!
We need to stand behind Israel, 100%!
OK by me.
Or maybe I should say, what's the use?
Not need permission Isreal do they.
Sincerely,
Yoda
Why should they?
They are supposedly all grown up and on their own, right?
Good for the Israelis. Why do they need to ask us? Or even inform us? Maybe they’re low on trust right now that it wouldn’t be on the network news before it happened.
Israels gift to the LSM.
Israel has better judgement about invasions than the USA or Tony Blair, or the UN. Let Israel seek it’s own solutions.
It is the outside help like Condleeza Rice that does all of the harm.
