A 12-year-old boy had to surrender his toy rifle to police amid tight security around the Queen's visit to church at Sandringham.
Jacob Young said he handed in the wooden weapon so he could see the Queen without giving her or her bodyguards any cause for concern.
He said: "When I got to the park gates I handed my gun to the policeman and he hung it on the fence.
"I didn't want anybody to think I wanted to shoot the Queen. I didn't mind handing in my gun. I knew it would be safe with the police."

A toy gun at Obama’s inauguration? Not if it looked like the real thing and some toys do. The kid would be lucky to escape with only 6 holes in his chest.
Twelve year olds hate hearing this, but he’s a cute kid. Nice to see he doesn’t feel too old for toys, too. I’m seeing way too many kids his age who do.
You won't hear that sentiment being expressed here in the US by those of us who cherish our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

I went once to the Nixon Library for a book signing. While in line I was given a pamphlet by a docent. A few minutes security demanded I hand the same pamphlet back. I suppose they thought I was going to give Newt Gingrich a fatal paper cut.

Got my first real rifle at age nine - (8 miles from Texas).
last winter my then 12 year old son and his friend were out after dark playing in the church parking lot, around some snow banks, with their wooden homemade rifles and having a pretty good time using their imaginations...until a local cop stopped by and started talking to them, asking questions about their guns...it really freaked them out:)

let’s see now....I’m going to take my 12 year old son to see the queen and I allow him to take along his toy gun.......and when we get there, I allow him to take it out of the car......I don’t think so.......pathetic
Probable not, it was the first gun had seen and was going to use it himself.
Kids his age get their own computer and cell phone. When I was 12, I still wanted my own Super Soaker. Leave it to my parents to not let me have anything that resembled a gun "because I might misuse it."
