Community celebrates Chertoff’s departure
The Brownsville Herald ^ | January 5, 2009 | Kevin Sieff

Posted on 01/06/2009 1:40:18 PM PST by SwinneySwitch

Border communities from Tucson, Ariz. to Brownsville on Saturday will celebrate the end of Michael Chertoff's term as Homeland Security Secretary with piñatas, music and a retirement cake.

There's only one catch: Chertoff isn't invited.

Some of the secretary's most vocal critics will gather at Brownsville's Galeria 409, just a few yards from where the fence will be constructed, to commemorate what they consider Chertoff's disastrous tenure.

"This is not a protest disguised as a party - this is a party," said Scott Nicol, of the No Border Wall Coalition. "Chertoff has only been secretary for three years but he has managed to do a tremendous amount of damage. Texas will be glad to see him gone, and it can't come soon enough."

A group in El Paso will also host a Chertoff sendoff party on Jan. 10, which will include a border fence limbo.

But before groups celebrate Chertoff's departure, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security will begin preparing for the fence's construction in Brownsville.

In a letter to Mayor Pat M. Ahumada Jr. last week, DHS officials wrote that clearing and grubbing will begin in two city locations where the barrier will be erected - in the La Muralla area and on a stretch near River Bend Resort. The two segments total 5.2 miles.

Though the government's deadline to complete the project passed on Dec. 31, plans to build 17 miles of fencing in Brownsville remain unchanged.

"We're still headed toward our goal," said U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman Lloyd Easterling. "The contracts that were awarded (in Cameron County) still stand."

Ahumada hopes to add the City of Brownsville to an amicus brief filed by the Texas Border Coalition expressing opposition to the fence. He'll broach the issue at the Jan. 6 City Commission meeting.

The border fence has made Chertoff a household name in South Texas, as DHS's influence has grown. Created in 2002, the department has become the third largest cabinet in the federal government, overseeing U.S. Border Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard and the Federal Emergency Management Agency

The problem here is the illegal aliens, terrorists, zetas, gunrunners, drug traficantes and human smugglers forgot that we don't like Chertoff either ~ only our complaint is that he sold out to them!

About time for those pukes to learn to read English 'cause the Spanish language press is not covering what's really going on.

These people are so dim. They’ve no idea that Chertoff and GW did everything they could to resist building the wall.

Despite explicit congressional mandates and funding to build the wall, they built only a few miles of it.

Guys, get a clue. Bush and Chertoff are on your side.

LaRaza will be front and center in congress TOMORROW demanding bailout $$$$ for “latino”..translate: ILLEGAL ALIEN foreclosures. Notice it says she will “WARN” congress.....

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact:
January 5, 2009 Jackeline Stewart (202) 785-1670

NCLR PRESIDENT AND CEO JANET MURGUÍA TO TESTIFY BEFORE CONGRESS ON STRATEGIES TO REDUCE LATINO FORECLOSURES

Washington, DC—Janet Murguía, President and CEO of the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), the largest national Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the United States, will warn Congress against leaving homeowners out of the remaining funds of the bailout bill in a hearing before the U.S. House of Representatives Financial Services Committee on Wednesday, January 7. The hearing on the remaining funds of the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) will be presided over by Chairman Barney Frank (D-MA) and will take place at 10:00 a.m. in Room 2128 of the Rayburn House Office Building.

NCLR has urged Congress to include the millions of foreclosure-plagued American homeowners in last year’s $700 billion relief program, and it is disappointed that more than half of the TARP funds have been spent without providing assistance to homeowners facing foreclosure—an underlying cause of the economic crisis. NCLR believes that the economy demands a new, bold foreclosure prevention strategy, starting with a shift in the distribution of the remaining TARP funds.

MEDIA ADVISORY

WHEN: Wednesday, January 7, 10:00 a.m.
WHERE: Rayburn House Office Building, Room 2128
WHAT: Testimony of NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguía before the House Financial Services Committee

If you would rather not receive future email messages from National Council of La Raza (NCLR), let us know by clicking here.
National Council of La Raza (NCLR), Raul Yzaguirre Building 1126 16th Street NW, Washington, DC 20036 United States

______

And a note about this from an anti-illegal alien group:

On January 5th, The Wall Street Journal published a full-page plus article entitled “Housing Push for Hispanics Spawns Wave of Foreclosures”!

Isn’t it enough that La Raza has ripped off millions of OUR tax dollars with the federal grants to them AND Obama appointed Cecilia Munoz as Director of Governmental Affairs, now WE are supposed to bail out all THEIR illegal alien criminals?

And what does it mean Murguia will “warn” Congress? What will she do if they don’t agree - call out MS-13?

Please plan to be on the phone (toll-free 866/220-0044) to the Financial Services Committee first thing tomorrow DEMANDING that not one penny be awarded to ANY so-called “homeowner” who cannot provide legal status i.e. illegal alien !

Testimony of NCLR President and CEO Janet Murguía before the House Financial Services Committee.

I will never forget some years back printed in Spanish on a sign was an invitation to undocumented workers to apply for a home loan with the assistance of the bank many did.

As I read and understand some Spanish I got the gist of the sign and asked for a translation which my banker proudly gave me. I was inconsolable, very vocal and slightly animated, especially after I read it was a Federal program. We are living the bad Carma from this insanity!

I live in the Houston Metro area however I am in San Benito and South Padre several times a year. So as a property owner in both places I have an interest in S. Texas/Mexico and a stake in its future.

Since Clinton forbade lenders from using means as a measure for the sake of “raza relations”, while Democrats like Frank and Schumer shot down W.’s attempt at reform, I’m certain the NCLR will lay all the blame on the Party most responsible.

Hah! What makes me really laugh is how illegals preyed on their “brother” illegals while the houses kept getting turned over for profit. The NCLR are crying on behalf of the chumps who ended up on the last link of that chain...without the sense to strip the house bare and run South.

While immoral those who ran showed SOME common sense. They’re gone and now we’re being asked to pay for the dullest knives in the drawer.
