Such a long wait. Candidates don’t need 2 months to gather petitions.

IMHO they have no choice. Blago is still governor until impeached and convicted, and has appointed a replacement for Obama. The Ill. secretary of state does not have the authority to override the governor. That said I hope Blago get 30 years in the pokey.
S0 the long wait is really pointless then. They don’t need all that time to politick.
State law allows the gov to set special election dates, but mandates a certain spread ... I may be wrong, but want to think it's at least 90 days but not more than 115 days.
Once the petition are filed, there's a certain amount of time for challenges, and then once the slates are certified the ballots must be printed and distributed. There are over 1000 precincts in the 5th district and judges will have to be recruited for each. Many of the seniors who typically volunteer are snowbirding, unable, or unwilling to come out in the dead of winter. So there are some legitimate logistical roadblocks.

Many 5th District voters hate the wait, until they can elect an ethical, Republican, to Congress. They had democrat congressmen for the past 12 years, Blagojevich, 1997-2003; and Emanuel, 2003-’09. If Rosanna wins, she could be sworn in, on April 8, which is three months from tomorrow.
I live in the 4th. I have a woooonderful Congressman in Luis Gutierrez. :/
