Metro is scaling back its plans to offer parking to more than a thousand buses for the inauguration, citing an apparent lack of interest.
Although as many as 10,000 buses are predicted to bring more than 500,000 people to the region for the historic Jan. 20 swearing in of Barack Obama as president, Metro officials said Tuesday they had received just 35 requests from charter buses. Now the transit system will open nearly all of its 60,000 parking spots to cars instead.

The entertainment continues...5 million? or 500K?
HA! Do they really think they can just pull up in a BUS and park anywhere?
Sheesh, the IQ of those all excited about Obama is showing full on now.
Aren’t all the Obamanauts environmentally conscious? Why would they drive awful, polluting buses and *individual cars* instead of walking or bicycling?
The MSM can just use old Hitler speech footage.
Is this lack of foresight and planning, or has interest been greatly overhyped?
You ain’t kidding about the parking situation in the DC metro...
The muggers and pickpockets are already there and anyone else with half a brain is heading in the other direction.
What if they held an inauguration and no one cared?
5 million? or 500K? CNN=5 mill. Park service = 500K. Actual, interested attendees that aren't related to Obama, aren't required to be there as a part of their job, and aren't using the event as a means of skipping work or school.....maybe a few dozen.
But that's just my opinion. :-)
My bet is on that one. If you don't live here, you can't possibly imagine what it's like - unless you live in LA. Our beltway is a parking lot day and night when nothing special is going on. Construction on the Wilson bridge affects exits (meaning construction on the exits) going back 10 miles.
These aren't the kind of people who are going to go online and assess travel situations. I've lived here over 15 years and NEVER drive in the District if I can help it.
BTTTTTT, I just read a few days ago that DC was bracing for the biggest inauguration crowd ever.
We all understand, of course, that everything The Marxist says or does will be bigger, louder and more important than anything anyone else has done ever. Standard Marxist playbook tactic.
Honestly, I’m hoping for a hard, cold rain. Snow would be better.
The checks for the rent-a-mobs must’ve bounced...
going to be a mess
I was hoping for a blizzard.......
Waaaaaait a second. You’re saying that they are going to close both I-395 and I-66 inside the Beltway? So does this mean that the Messiah is going to ride his donkey into Washington on Lee Highway instead, with the faithful laying down palm leaves and shouting hosannas?
They can’t be seriously expecting Metro to cover enough of the load that they can shut down the two major Interstate routes into the District, can they?

Actually, driving in the District isn’t bad at all. If you pay attention to rush hours (avoid) and mid-day deliveries downtown. Mot many loading docks in back of most buildings. They have to be handled from the street.
Let me correct myself on rush hours: If you catch the early rush hours, things really move. People know where they are going and they do move.
Planning: They are doing a ton of it. Lots of bad tradeoffs and lots of questionable intel on how many are coming and from where.
See the WaPo article here.

Inside that perimeter will be a much more secure perimeter. I was in it for Bush and will be again. I have the feeling that the Secret Service looked at Lessons Learned from the last time and is now doubling everything. We’ll see.
There is real concern as to whether or not ambulances can move, and similar matters more security related.
I would love to hear the screaming and shouting at some of the planning meetings.
And yes, if I go out my front door, I had better have picture ID for a day or two.
Some people are in for a very unpleasant surprise, then. I have a few friends of the liberal persuasion, one of whom claims to have paid that $50,000 for special treatment, for four people. I told him he’d better have access to a helicopter, otherwise it’s going to be nothing but a very expensive nightmare. He poo-pooed my comment, said I was being “negative” because I didn’t like Obama. We’ll see, I guess. The whole thing sounds ripe for a truly massive riot, if you ask me.
Permits. They don’t need no stinkin permits.
Permits cost money and they aren’t about to pay money!!!!
I live just outside the Beltway near Ft. Belvoir. Gonna hunker down that day, rent some DVDs and keep the popcorn popper going...
