WASHINGTON (Reuters) U.S. cities are vulnerable to an attack like the gun-and-grenade assault that terrorized Mumbai for three days and killed 179 people, the White House homeland security adviser said on Wednesday.
Ken Wainstein told a Washington think tank that the Mumbai attacks in November showed the effectiveness of a low-technology coordinated assault on an open city.

Naturally, the best place for such an attack is where concealed carry is banned. And if such an attack takes place, it will be used as an excuse to restrict CCW elsewhere by the ObamaNation.

The terrorists might be gunned downed by some criminals on their way to do a heist, you never know.

Not in NYC or LA they won’t.

We had the LA Airport attack.
We had the jewish school in Washington state.
We had an attack atop the Empire State Building.
We had a crazy person with a bomb outside an Oklahoma University football stadium.
I am sure others can add to this list.

I would suspect a “sanctuary city” with very tough gun control. It is a good thing that San Francisco is so far from our borders!

Those were all conducted by one person, unlike the attack on the British airport and the 7/7 subway/bus attacks.

Well, DUH!
As much as I dislike the self-serving Richard Clarke, he was dead-on
in asking why there haven’t been terrorist attacks in the USA
by small (possibly “leaderless”) cells.
Myself, I suspect it’s just due to the hard work of our FBI, CIA,
lots of observant state/local LEOs and US citizens (maybe some of
them observant Muslims that don’t like the Islamic terrorists).
And also due to the “stay the course” attitude of Dubya and his administration
(even if I disagree with Dubya about “comprehensive immigration reform”).
One reason I’d like to live to a ripe old age...
is to read the true history that explains why 9-11 was an isolated event.
(Great Zeus, I hope that stays true into the future!)

A Mumbai attack would have different results here, even in Chicago or DC. American police love to respond with SWATs and are armed with modern weapons (the Mumbai police tended to carry weapons we would term "historical") and are most definitely not averse to shooting people. In Atlanta, ăy, such an action wold quickly become a gun battle rather than a "massacre." I am sure that AQ et al would deem that sort of attack as insufficiently productive.

We have individual SJS incidents. An organized attack of that sort would wast too much terrorist resources for the return. Attacks here would more likely be of the single boom or multiple boom suicide bomber sort. Return on investment is much more predictable that way.

No news here. A Beslan like attack could also happen here. Practically every civilian spot in the US is vulnerable to attack by a group of heavily armed terrorists. Recall what havoc only one or two armed kids have caused in high schools.
I don’t even know why a WH aide sees a need to publicly state something that is so obvious. It might just be the nudge that some would be terrorists need to decide to act.

I think the academy awards would be the best place for them to attack. But, they won’t attack their allies, would they?

I am pretty sure that the jihadis do not see hollywood as their ally. Hollywood may see *them* as victims of the capitalist running dogs of U.S. imperialism, but I do not think they see Hollywood as anything other than decadent Western pagans who have given up even the semblance of religion that they used to have.
