Call this a lowering of expectations by a figurehead of the mainstream media.
Newsweek editor Jon Meacham spoke candidly about his expectations for President-elect Barack Obama at an appearance promoting his latest book about former President Andrew Jackson, "American Lion," at the Politics & Prose bookstore in Washington, D.C. on Jan. 7.
Meacham was asked to draw a comparison between Jackson and Obama on foreign policy, but told the audience he had doubts has to whether or not Obama was going to live up to the expectations many on the left had, especially when it came to the so-called past misdeeds of President George W. Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

I, for one, hope that O does not undo the national security measures put in place by Bush/Cheney.
I prefer not to be nuked.
Ran into somebody with BDS the other day. When I asked him what Bush had done that was so awful, he had no answer.
Does that make Obama “awful” and “terrible”? Just wondering.
The Obama is messaih crowd is made up of alot of the same people, but if you separate them into two groups you'd still get a lot of blank stares and deer in the headlights looks if you ask whats so great about Obama.
Such as capturing and executing Saddam Hussein.
Even with his media cheerleaders, Obama will be held accountable by the voters for all economic ills — Presidents always are. Nothing Meacham can do about it.
Let’s hope that Newsweek goes into bankruptcy sooner rather than later.
Let’s Kill the NYT (AND NEWSWEAK)
Conservatives should convene a summit to come up with our own secret weapon to kill the New York Times. Surely the brightest minds on the right can think of some business technique perfectly legal, but perfectly lethal to hasten this monsters demise.

They wrote pure slander, fictions and misdirections -- propaganda -- that cast President Bush in as a fool, as an idiot, as a war-monger and greedy oil-man interested in bugging every phone and email. As a coward willing to send the poor to war for oil, as a frontman for evil big business and religious zealots. President Bush was none of this, but those slanders were repeated and drummed out again and again and again. It was the dogma of the Mass Religion, only nut-case fringer heretics disagreed.
Bush is scrupulously honest, he is highly intelligent, very well read, and courageous. He is a man who has stood alone for the sake of moral principle again and again. A man how looks up the everyday men and women in all walks of life -- who sees, who admires, the heroism in our war-fighters, in our first responders. An intelligent man who really cares for others.
Yet with words Meacham and men and women like him kill. Killing a good man's honor by evil words, ends up in bloodshed for the innocent. Especially when the good man is a leader of many. Meacham's words are bloody, that blood is over his manicure, his wardrobe, his luxuty model cars, his expensive furnishings, his -- bloody flesh drips from his teeth.
And now comes Obama.
Again will MSM's Newsweek editor Meacham lauch their missile batteries, mortars and IEDs. This time the will write pure adulation, pure iconography, totally fictions and misdirecting -- pure propaganda -- that will cast Obama in as a genius, charmed, loving, caring, bringer of peace and serenity. Loved by all. Always right. All His words are Truths. The savior of the oppressed, the rescuer of us all.
Reality will not make any difference in the incessant drumbeat. The holy parade must march, and all children with flowers must lay down before His Holy Presence, His Juggernaut. Those who call the Emperor naked, or even a bit threadbare or perhaps wearing a slightly too big hat -- those who are not with them are against them, and set for destruction, for derision, for marginalization.
It has nothing to do with Bush or Obama. It is all about Newsweek editor Meacham and his craft and how it will be pursued. It is the plan, it is the intention, it is the plottings of the MSM, it arises in their imaginations out of insecurity and mistrust.
It is the suicidal recklessness of an adolescent, a brat, given the car keys of a hot engined sports car, parents away on long overseas vacation, but the rec room liquor cabinet full. And with them on the road -- there we all are.
Party time and aftermath.
Excellent post. I totally agree!
Thanks! (I do apologize for all the typos.)
I’ll say it again. I would not know that Newsweak even existed except for Free Republic refrences.
I said it on another thread, but I’m starting to hear “Well, at least he’s not Bush” an awful lot of late. That’s pretty lame. If they can’t answer the question, “So who is he then?” by the time the guy is sworn into office, wouldn’t you think that would worry somebody? Bueller?
