WASHINGTON -- President-elect Barack Obama said Friday his administration would not compromise its ideals to fight terrorism, and he has told his new intelligence chiefs that he expects the Geneva Conventions to be honored.
"I was clear throughout this campaign and was clear throughout this transition that under my administration the United States does not torture," Obama said, when asked at the news conference whether he would continue a policy of harsh interrogation. "We will abide by the Geneva Conventions. We will uphold our highest ideals."

Funny, I don't remember it that way at all. A small number might have expressed that cockeyed view but certainly not "most here on FR".
I hope you are right that the people would react that way if we are unfortunate enough to be hit again, but it will be spun that we were only attacked because Bush made the whole world hate us and more terrorists were created. Then, the media will roll out a 'study' that shows the #1 cause of terrorism is the aggressive behavior of America post 9/11, and the idiot population will lap it up.

Obama intends to go further than the Geneva conventions- under which there is no problem with shooting spies.
He intends to treat captured terrorists as criminal “suspects” with all of the rights mentioned in the Bill of Rights as interpreted by the Supreme Court such as the Miranda decision.
Talk is cheap for Obama now. Wait until he’s in a position where he needs information from a muslim terrorist prisoner who refuses to talk because he knows he won’t be tortured
