“I think he just became a poster child for the stupidity of that concept. “

Could be. Depends if the people watching the news feel safer now that the guy has his guns taken away. If they do, we can expect more, as politicians promise to make sheeple safe.

Homer and Marge were tracking Bart with the GPS in his cellphone.

Bart was spinning in a tire swing. Homers says..”He just keeps spinning. What’s his angle?”

LoL

BS, I live in Virginia and I can travel anywhere in the State except for Federal Areas with whatever I want to. Shall not be infringed is in there for a reason and this incident also violates the 4th amendment too.

“Don't be an ass. You are not getting on any aircraft without “Zee Paperverk” for your weapon. Save your BS for someone who doesn't/hasn't done it. Mein FRiend.”

I think you are mistaken. The only “paperwork” required to transport your firearms by commercial air in most of the country is a little card that you sign when you declare at the check in counter that you have an unloaded firearm in your checked luggage. I have flown with weapons dozens of times since 9/11, and that is the way it is.

There is a federal law that says that if you can legally possess a firearm in the area you are from, and you can legally possess it where you are going, you can transport the firearm with you. On an aircraft, it has to be in checked luggage.

What other “paperverk” are you referring to? Is there something specific that is required in your state that you are considering?

If there is such a requirement, I would like to be aware of it.

Even if the guy expressed an intention to stop at the airport, he was free to change that intention at any time and proceed to the range without making any such stop.

I would also ask how 'stop' is defined. Typically, it would not include instances where, although the vehicle is motionless, the driver remains seated with the belt fastened and the engine running.

Plenty of “Kapo” material in waiting.

I wonder how many gubmint jackasses are employed in the application of these convoluted arbitrary laws? It's insanity. Who is John Galt?

Meanwhile in downtown LA, on the sidewalk in front of the Federal Building on Westwood, illegal aliens hawk fake IDs as openly as if they were selling hot dogs or time share condos. Federal LE agents have to avert their eyes to blatant migra felonies being committed directly in front of them.

But ah, for gun laws, an electron micros nope is used, and no interpretation is too creative, if it results in another American gun owner becoming a felon.

I don’t see the problem, he didn’t try to take them into the terminal or board an aircraft with them.

Where exactly was he arrested?

I recall from an earlier thread that he was stopped at a random check point on the access road several “blocks” from the airport. “Blocks” as in a measure of distance. I’m not sure if there were any intersections for him to exit between the check point and the airport.

the approval letter didn’t mention it was illegal in California to make a pit stop while transporting the weapon from his home to the gun range."

California Penal Code section 12285(c)(7) requires that registered assault weapons may be transported only between specified locations and must be unloaded and in a locked container when transported.

For the sake of argument, try these two scenarios:

  1. The gun owner lives in Redding, Ca. which is in the northern part of CA. He registered and is enrolled to shoot at a NRA Sanctioned Match to be held at Range 103 aboard Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Ca which is located in the southern part of the state.

  2. The gun owner Lives in San Clemente, CA. which abuts Camp Pendleton on the Northern Border some 30 Miles from Range 103.

Is there a difference between the two gun owners activities? keep in mind that one can reach the range by traveling on a few city streets to Interstate 5, then To Oceanside, CA. Through the main gate to Camp Pendleton and then 3 or 4 more miles to the Range.

In Case 1 it could possibly involve two or more days travel to attend the same match.

Is there a difference? Can the gun owner sleep overnight in a hotel, can he refuel his vehicle, senter a rest tsop, eat at a resturant or is he compelled to carry enough fuel and food to make the trip nonstop.

Time to launder and reactivate. The guards are corrupt. They do the bidding of their fundraisers. The fundraisers with the biggest pile of treasure were the anti-gun types.

1000 rounds of ammo is not that much. 30 guns? one illegal the only thing they have him on is illegal transport of an illegal assault weapon? Sounds like they are desperate to make an example of him. I hope it gets dismissed.

"Dominguez said he had 16 pistols, including an 1858 black-powder Army revolver. He also had five rifles - one of them an assault rifle - and nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition. Wasn't it 37 pistols and 15 rifles yesterday?"

We had people fly in from all over country for a CETME shoot a few years back. They all followed the letter of the federal law when they departed.

Are they to be arrested under Ca State law if they are in compliance with federal law?

This whole thing stinks to high heaven. I am all for state law and believe that local law should trump some ahole on capitol hill, but this is a bit of a quandary when the state law violates the constitution.

“1000 rounds of ammunition”... journalism majors love the big numbers, but I can hold 1000 rounds in my hands rather easily. 4 small-brick-sized boxes of .22 hold 1000 rounds.
