Man with guns at LAX decries arrest
Daily Breeze ^ | Jan 10, 2009 | Robert Jablon, AP

Posted on 01/11/2009 10:44:48 AM PST by Beaten Valve

The man arrested at Los Angeles International Airport with a trunk full of guns and nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition said Saturday that he is a law-abiding weapons enthusiast who had no idea he might be breaking the law.

A day after he was arrested for suspicion of felony transportation of an assault rifle, Phillip Dominguez said he's confident he'll be exonerated.

"Our Second Amendment rights are being trampled in the name of law enforcement," Dominguez said. "I'm a law-abiding, taxpaying gun enthusiast. I have no felonies - up until now."

What is BS, that he was on his way to the airport, or that taking the guns to the airport? Or the whole story stinks?

What's the CA definition of an "assault" weapon?

Any semiautomatic rifle or carbine with a removable magazine.

It is not illegal to take guns to the airport.

It is done everyday all across the country.

But from what I understand from the article and people’s posts here, there is NOTHING illegal with what he did EXCEPT that ONE of his weapons was transported “improperly” according to ridiculous CA law. If he had not had that one gun with him, there was nothing wrong with what he was doing.

I actually followed the story a couple days ago. So, are you saying it was not prohibited for him to enter airport property with a gun? I know they can be checked in when one is flying. But, there are probably regulations on how they are carried. According the PD a couple of days ago he was meeting someone at the airport.

Why do you put “construction contractor” in quotes? You think builders are lowlifes? If you live in a location where you have to drive a long way to pick somebody at the airport, and the range is out that way, why would you not take your guns to save making unnecessary laps around the countryside?

I’m quite familiar with guns at the airport, but the question is having the gun, but ‘how’ it is carried/stored.

The Bushmaster "Shorty," a semiautomatic rifle modeled on the military's
AR-15, was the reason he was arrested.

He's not allowed to cruise around with this weapon according to the laws.
Although the weapon was legal, he can only go to and from a range,
Not the airport. This guy screwed up and challenged the laws he already knew.

You know something?

3000 people were killed with airplanes on 911.

Maybe we should ban airplanes at airports. Think about it.

It is done everyday all across the country.

Last time I went to Alaska, there were all kinds of obviously gun cases being loaded and unloaded from the airplanes.

I go to LAX regulalrly, and the funny thing is that there are several other entry points into that same terminal that I rarely see a checkpoint.

If you stay on the lower level of W. Century Blvd., you can drive right into the lower level of LAX often without having to stop at any checkpoint.

This guy took the “upper level” entrance, right about where this Google photo was taken.

I believe you can carry a gun (concealed with a permit) right up to the security checks - which you cannot go beyond without a ticket. There is nothing illegal about carrying a concealed weapon all over the airport, as long as you are on the non-passenger side of the TSA checkpoints. Happens every day and happens every time I go to the airport when I’m not traveling.

he was handcuffed, taken to a jail and held for six hours before he was booked. He was released at around 11 p.m. after his family posted $50,000 bail. But his guns and his truck were confiscated.

It took the assholes 6 hours to find some little technicality to charge him with. Now he's looking at a felony and the theft of his property.

They were locked up, with the ammo locked up separately.

He can walk into the terminal with a loaded pistol if he is licensed to do so.

This guy is getting screwed on an insane technicality.

I’m not inserting an opinion, I’m just discussing facts on the situation. But, considering aviation is on a higher alert level, the LEO’s there take extra precautions, at least till they get the info straight.

Why do you put “construction contractor” in quotes?

Because he's not a gun dealer and because any normal human being in Ca. knows they have the strictest gun control laws in America? Please don't be disingenuous and pretend that gun owners with a toolbox full of expensive guns are ignorant of the law.

I KNOW the law is stupid, and I hope he wins this, but can’t escape that feeling that he’s going to be outmaneuvered on it. Or wondering if he wasn’t maneuvered into this position in the first place, just to get even tighter laws going.
