From the linked article: "Dominguez said he got state permission to own and use the assault rifle last month ..."

I'm not aware of any mechanism whereby a person in Kalifornia is able to register an "assault rifle" in December of 2008.

Those who possessed such weapons when the original laws went into effect were grandfathered in. Even those people cannot transfer such rifles unless to a person out of state.

There is something very strange about this.

The bums hung around a bit longer this year. Right up to the Dec 8th snow storm. They have been gone for the last month. It's a seasonal thing. They will arrive in town around early April and stay until it gets too cold. Unlike San Diego, Pocatello doesn't try to attract bums by opening shelters and feeding them. Much of the population survives on minimum wage retail and restaurant jobs. There isn't a large tax base that can be wasted on "social" programs. It's hard enough to keep the pot holes filled, streets plowed and enough police/fire to handle the minimal needs.

I laughed my ass off last year when a "low rider" with a full set of hydraulics arrived in town. The snow and ice fixed his wagon pretty fast. We did have an unpleasant experience at the Barnes & Noble in Idaho Falls. A bunch of hispanic gang bangers parked their cars on the service road in front the store and had a "picnic" going on the tables in front of the internal Starbucks. It caused a real traffic snarl as people tried to drive around the illegally parked vehicles. The shopping mall security finally convinced them to park properly in the available parking spaces.

I had to stop a couple of yahoos yesterday with a 50 BMG
They were gonna shoot it up the river toward the road.

Under the laws of “mylife” I think that barrett should be mine now L0L

I told them, I hate to be the fun nazi but do you see those 400 yard gongs in front of that 35 foot river bank down stream?

Those people were stupid, what the guy in this story did is nothing IMHO

As the clock struck midnight and Jan 1, 2000 arrived, one of my co-workers took a hacksaw to the receiver of his 7.62x39 rifle with fixed 10 round magazine. He didn't want to register it. He didn't get it out of the state in time and his DoD clearance was of more value than having CA tag him with a "felony". The rifle was less than 6 months old and had sold for about $239. It was a new Saiga model with the 10 rd CA approved mags. What a waste. I would have purchased the rifle and relocated it to Idaho if I had known in time.

Perhaps by the anti-gun liberals. But this might be just the case to reach the Supreme Court and help us restore our right to keep and bear arms here in the People's Republik of Kalifornia.

The Supreme Court could have a laugh while the state of Kalifornia attempted to justify requiring papers to transport a rifle simply because it has a three-ounce plastic pistol grip attached to it.

The cold weather is no barrier to bums. Just look at New York, Cincinnati or Baltimore.

It's another entrapment law designed to be flexible enough to convict every gun owner.
I hope this guy has deep pockets to fight this, or a lawyer in the family.

Los Angeles is a VERY crowded place. There are probably people LIVING closer to the airport than this man was when he was stopped.

My family spent a few hours at an In-n-Out Burger place which is immediately under the landing approach for LAX. It is fun to see the planes up close. Anybody with a firearm in Kalifornia could visit the same place without any expectation of being checked for any reason whatever.

Are you one of those people who think we have a "weapons" problem instead of a "criminal" and "terrorist" problem? Americans need to be encouraged to have weapons wherever illegal immigrant terrorists are able to have them.

People aren’t understanding my point.

I am not saying this guy is wrong. I am not saying California is right for its very bizarre gun laws (if interpreted as the officials are interpreted here would mean you could never transport one as pointed out upthread).

I am just saying, as a frequent flier, that airports today are very paranoid places and you should figure that all laws will be interpreted against you the citizen.

It ain’t necessarily right — but it is very much so.

Paladin2 said: What's the CA definition of an "assault" weapon?

It took at least three different laws before the anti-gunners here in Kalifornia were able to satisfy their need to outlaw constitutionally-protected behavior.

The first outlawed a whole list of scary, militaristic guns by make and manufacturer. When it became obvious that this was not sufficient, they added a law which permitted the Kalifornia Attorney General to add weapons to the list as he saw fit.

When it was realized that new manufacturers could create new models faster than they could be listed, Kalifornia passed a law outlawing center-fire, magazine-fed, semi-automatic rifles with any ONE of various features, including pistol grips, collapsible stocks, forward pistol grips, or those really scary flash suppressors.

When it was realized that gun-owners could buy unlisted receivers HOPING that Kalifornia would add them to the list, permitting them to own an "assault weapon" after the grandfathered cut-off date, Kalifornia removed the Attorney General's authority to add rifles to the list.

When Kalifornia realized that .50 BMG rifles are powerful and scary-looking, they too were added to the list. This despite their never having been used in a crime.

When the law first appeared, I sensed trouble ahead and arranged to store five of my rifles out-of-state. One of these was a $2000 target rifle.

I got them from Interordenance.com for $1.99 each... If I could have gotten the group buy together faster they had been a buck each... Still $2 isn’t bad.

They had some nice German Flectarn two cell pouches for them that fit the German load bearing harness.

I agree. The guy will probably get off and hopefully won't have to sue to get his guns and truck back.

The downside is that the unconstitutional law will stand to trap somebody else.

Even if the guy expressed an intention to stop at the airport, he was free to change that intention at any time and proceed to the range without making any such stop. The authorities stopped him BEFORE he had broken any law and are attempting to jail him on a felony and remove his right to keep and bear arms for life. If these people were on fire I wouldn't spit on them for fear of putting out the fire.
