“Then as most of you are saying - make it California airport - and he’s got a problem.”

You have a point there. I have traveled with firearms all over the country, and the only places I had any (rather small) problems have been at California airports. The security people there seemed simply ignorant of the law and of firearms.

Is it illegal to have a gun on the non-passenger side of a CA airport? Can you carry concealed legally at a CA airport if you are not traveling?

From the article, it appears so. He is not in trouble for having guns and ammunition at the airport, he is in trouble for having one of the guns there in violation of a nit-picky part of CA law.
