The House has passed legislation to assure that employers live up to their four-decade-old legal promise to provide equal pay for equal work.
Democrats led lawmakers in approving a bill making clear that women who are victims of gender-based discrimination can sue for compensatory and punitive damage.
The chamber was also voting on a bill in response to a Supreme Court decision that workers must file a discrimination claim within 180 days of a pay violation.
Supporters of changing the law said many workers don't find out about wage disparities for years.
The two bills, coming in the first week of the new Congress, attest to the worker rights agenda of the Democratic-led Congress and the incoming Democratic president, Barack Obama.

It was good to see Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn state: "it's little more than an earmark for the trial bar". It was disapointing that Anh Cao [R]-Louisana voted for it.

The Demagogues and RINOs are going to go hog-wild with stuff like this and much much more. Our only hope is that they over-reach enough on some high-profile issues that the backlash can begin in 2010.
Sadly, as they proceed to blast open the southern border with Shamnesty etc. they will add significantly to the prospects for a long-term socialist majority.
If these SOBs start coming after mfg jobs we are just gonna close down. Been in the business for over 27 years and keep saying we’ll go on for another couple of years. I am desparately tired of playing babysitter to employees that due nothing but chic chat about each other and come running to me to complain when they get caught. Thankfully, we can afford to pay off all vendors and employees and just close down. My boss hasnt taken a salary in over a year to help the business. We will see..... Only problem is I’m too young to retire...

and everything else on the Democrats wish list, knowing after the $700 billion bail-out, they can pass anything by offering Roy Blunt and the Republicans a tax payer funded back-scratcher(Blunt was the one that came out after meeting with Pelosi to announce they had a deal)
The La rep campaigned pretty much as a liberal Republican. Given his constituency you should not expect him to do anything remotely considered conservative.

We are headed for an inflationary economy, and the very same workers will be complaining that their wages don’t keep up with inflation.

Guilty until proven innocent. This bill turns two centuries of American jurisprudence on its head. Perhaps some lawyer here can tell me if there is ANY other law on the books which demands the presumption of guilt.
