Bush in my mind will be known as the GOP’s Jimmy Carter: He took the GOP down with him just like Carter with his numb skull approach to government took down the Dems for us.
We can point to a few good outcomes of his administration: he took on the Islamic fanatics (without calling them such). Due to 9/11, he also obtained tax cuts that were long overdue and made good Supreme Court nominations albeit he had to be dragged into one of them over Miers.

On the negative side which vastly overwhelms the positive, one thing is clear: he took down almost every conservative member of Congress through such thoughtless programs as no child left behind which he co mangled with the Dems; the ineptly sold social security redo which never happened; his idea for a medicare drug program without any input from his party, his stubbornness on the illegal immigrant issues, and above all, his failure to use the bully pulpit to support conservatives in both houses. He let the press and the dems run roughshod over anything the conservatives tried to put forth through inattention to domestic political activities most of the while pandering to Pelousy and Reid. He seemed to take a perverse pleasure in hurting people like Tom Tancredo who were staunch anti amnesty proponents in his own party while giving credence to some left wing dems like Kennedy and Clinton. The guy had no sense of power politics. The upshot is what we have today, a guy who may not even be eligible to be president running at the head of a pack of virtually debate proof congressional lefties. Mission accomplished.

This is an glaring example of why Bush lost support among conservatives, by treating the immigration issue as an mutually exclusive argument (for those in Rio Linda if something is true then something else cannot be true.)In other words Bush is saying to the GOP if you do not support ‘comprehensive immigration reform’ then you cannot be pro-immigrant and thus are anti-immigrant. This argument is specious. A person can strongly favor border security and not favor amnesty to keep out ‘illegal immigrants’ and staunchly approve of welcoming ‘legal’ immigrants. Immigration does not have to be a mutually exclusive issue. President Bush—shame on you and shame on anybody of your elitist ilk.

I agree. I don’t get a moment’s pleasure out of it though. It’s my desire to rally behind the Republican President. This last eight years was very painful for me. Honestly, if McCain had won, I would have basically dropped out for eight years. It would have been unbearable to watch that guy tear down our party even further. More importantly, he would have blurred what Conservatism is, even more.

It’s time to replace the RINOs. We’ve got a little over one year until the next primaries. We need to get some real Conservatives on the primary ballots in the 2010 Congressional and Senate elections.

When unemployment hits 9 percent, Americans are in no mood to have illegals compete with them for American jobs. As more poor Americans get pushed into Welfare, wait till they have to wait in line for public housing only to discover that illegals are living in many of the units. If the two parties want to commit political suicide, go ahead pass amnesty. The American pie is shrinking and it will become dog eat dog (unless you are too large to fail, you will get a bail out) very soon.

As bad as he was for the GOP, McCain could easily have won this election by simply coming out against the stupid bailout IMO. I still cannot believe the non citizen with every possible anti American supporter won over a veteran no less. Reminds me of when the draft dodger beat the first Bush.

Anyway, we are in for a rough ride for at least the next few years till hopefully we can take back the house. No way we get the Senate anytime soon. And a rough ride it will be as we have little leverage as both Pelousy and Reid will use their virtually delay and amendment proof houses to put forth a host of socialist programs and policies.

If you are so concerned about immigrants to this country, you should have stopped the illegal invaders. That's how you turn Americans against immigration, throw open the borders to anyone, who manages to stumble across and immediately they are entitled to hundreds of thousands of dollars of OUR taxes.

I voted for this turkey two times too many. He has been a true wolf in sheep's clothing and has perpetrated more damage to the Republican Party than anyone in recent memory.

Yes I would support the GOP president over anyone the Rats put forth.  I know a lot of folks came away with that decision this time around.  I can understand why.  I do have to say, I think the overall impact of having RINOs in there, more than outweighs the downside of having someone like Carter, Clinton, or Obama in there for one term.

Over the last twenty years, we had Repbulican rule for 12 of the years.  That would seem to be a break-even setup.  Can you honestly say you think we have broken even over the last twenty years since Reagan left office?  We had the majority in Congress for twelve of those years also.  Did we make progress overall, or did we lose ground?  IMO, we lost ground.  I don't even think it's close.  This nation has slide so far backwards over the last twenty years, it sickens me.  For that reason, I'm not signing on to support RINOs any longer.  Give me someone who can articulate what Conservatism is and why it's better than Socialism/Marxism, or go away.  No more Compassionate Conservatism for me.  It's either sound fiscal, international, domestic, and political policy, or these guys can find a new line of work.

Reminds me of when the draft dodger beat the first Bush.  One thing Clinton and Obama had going for them, is their opponents ran terrible campaigns.  McCain was convinced it was wrong to clearly define Obama for who he actually was.  McCain had also destroyed his own credibility with many Conservatives.  I couldn't trust the guy any farther than I could drop kick him.  He actually associated with George Soros, and flipped the party majority off on immigration policy.  There was plenty of other bad policy he had backed.  He went along with the bailout.  And I'm going to offer up a mea culpa on that point.  I supported the initial bailout based on the description of the credit markets when this mess first went public.  It was stated that they needed the $700 billion influx right away, or the credit markets would fold.  They needed it in days, or so they said.  To date they still haven't used the $700 billion they just had to have in days.  And all that did was open Pandora's Box.  Now everyone wants a bailout, and they are actually entertaining that thought.  I was wrong.  McCain however was in a very different seat than I was.  He was on the inside and should have known better.  I was lied to.  He should have had the full scoop.  He was in a better position to know the truth on this, and yet you are right.  He still supported the bailout.

I appreciate your alternative point of view.  I don't think it's a point of view that is not justifiable.  I've just had it with putting folks in there who are not going to support my beliefs.  And if they aren't, then I'd rather have somone in there from the other side, so when things hit the fan, they can take the heat for a change.

Tell me, who would you rather be taking the blame for this financial meltdown, the Democrats or the Republicans?  It drives me crazy to know this happened on our president's watch, even if I do think the Democrats engineered this mess.

The more I hear from GWB about his Amnesty BS, the more I come to think that GWB reminds me of a Fascist, he is one with the need by Companies for cheap labor that will further destroy the Middle and Working Classes in the USA, all for cheap labor and it’s lobby’s contributions.
