Column on Levi Johnston generates heat (and Fagan feels it)
Anchorage Daily News ^ | January 10, 2009 | Dan Fagan

The fallout over the Levi Johnston, ASRC story tells us a lot about what has become of our culture.

Johnston, the father of Gov. Sarah Palin's grandchild, quit his ASRC apprenticeship after I wrote a column last weekend detailing how the 18-year-old did not have a high school diploma, as the coveted program requires.

I questioned whether ASRC might have admitted Johnston ahead of others despite his not meeting the necessary requirements because of his association with Palin. After the column ran, the governor denied she had anything to do with it. That may be true but we will probably never know if ASRC intentionally admitted the unqualified Johnston because of his close ties to the most powerful politician in Alaska even if Palin knew nothing of it.

I thought investigating Johnston's suspicious entry into the ASRC program was a legitimate use of my column. Then the e-mails starting coming in by the truckload.

Says Fagan: "I'll have to admit I didn't anticipate this reaction. I thought most would want a young man like Johnston to learn the valuable lesson of playing by the rules and earning the privilege of entering a sought-after program like the ASRC apprenticeship. You know, the old school idea that anything worth anything is worth earning."

Still does not mention His Father worked there and said he was the one who pull some strings. Yet she want people to think Gov Palin got him in.

Here’s hoping someone somewhere will find one time Fagan “skirted the rules” and get his hind-quarters canned from his job. What a smarmy schmuck.

“we’ll never know if the Governor’s inlfuence got him into the program...”

We are such poor weak stupid journalists we will never be able to get to the real facts of the story.

So we will just assume the Governor knew and is lying.

Given her whole open-book life history as a conniving power abusing liar (s-a-r-c)

The rules for acceptance into the ARSC electrician apprenticeship should be the same for everyone. However, I really doubt that finishing the 12th grade is relevant to the program. High school students who know they don’t want to go to college should be allowed to take something like the GED that certifies their academic skills and then get on with their lives. I’m sick of the high-school/college/grad-school credentialing racket.

My Dear Mr. Fagan,

I assume your next column will be on how poor Bristol has a boyfriend that isn’t working because he refuses to fess up to the financial responsibilities involved with raising a child, and is instead pursuing the selfish goal of attaining a GED. God forbid Brisol use a babysitter to go to work to provide for her child while Levi is being selfish, because you’d probably complain about that too.

You, Mr. Fagan, are an idiot and need to get laid in a big time way.

Sincerely,
Dawg32

Fagan says that having a high school diploma in hand is a requirement. Anyone know if it really is, or is this just something made up by a leftist columnist?

Ah, yes, playing by the rules! It’s wonderful to see how Team Obama has lined up behind traditional American values.

I'm not a regular reader of the Anchorage Daily News, but I'll bet Dan Fagan writes columns all the time about kids who get a hand up from their relative where he tries to shame then into not accepting it.

It couldn't possibly be that the motivation is his hatred for Palin and him deciding this young man constitutes a legitimate target.

From the comments section - by mavisdarling

But the fact is that Levi Johnston got special treatment *for some unknown reason* and was fast-tracked into a coveted apprenticeship program without having the proper credentials.

Gee I wonder if "mavisdarling" would mind if I substituted Barack Obama for Levi Johnson in her comment?

Now that we know in a flash that Levi doesn’t have the requisit credentials for his program, is anybody gonna require the same standard of care for Barack Obama???

Or does playing by the rules only apply to white people in this country?

Fagan is a scumbag as he alludes in the article. He exudes moral superiority on exposing an 18 year old who got into a program due to his father's pull. He then calls anyone who disagrees a “Palinbot.” No bias there.

Yet, the entire national Democratic incoming administration is one giant Chicago mob of connections. Pay for play is in the platform somewhere from Clinton down to Rezko and he doesn't blink an eye.

Universities have what they call “collegiality” that excludes anyone but liberals from getting hired and getting tenure except in the hard sciences and he doesn't blink an eye.

The press is 90-1 progressive and he believes there are no strings pulled there on what is reported and who gets hired and promoted.

The double standard would gag a horse.

An 18 year old got in a program early while pursuing an apprenticeship and working on finishing his GED while preparing to become a father. He is working triple time to do what he can and this scumbag used his column to assassinate him. He claimed he used his column in a legitimate manner? You can justify it, I suppose... but to me this guy screwed a kid and wants to justify it. It was a story that wasn't worth reporting. It caused harm to someone for no legitimate reason. Fagan is a scumbag.

Somebody needs to send a message to the media.

Stay away from the Palin kids or there will be hell to pay.
