WASHINGTON, Jan. 12, 2009 – December was a recruiting success for all active-duty and reserve-component U.S. military services, which all met or exceeded their goals, according to a Defense Department news release issued today.

-- The Army signed 860 new active-duty soldiers, 115 percent of its target number of 750 enlistees.

-- The Navy signed 2,306 new active-duty sailors, meeting its target number of enlistees for the month.

-- The Marine Corps signed 2,392 new active-duty Marines, 113 percent of its target number of 2,116 enlistees.

-- The Air Force signed 2,967 new active-duty airmen, meeting its target number of enlistees for the month.

“All services continue to meet or exceed their active-duty recruiting goals, thanks to the tremendous efforts of our recruiters, and those who continue to step up and serve,” Eileen Lainez, a Defense Department spokeswoman, said. “It speaks volumes for the dedication and loyalty of our nation and its volunteers.’

In addition, the active Army, Navy, Marine Corps and Air Force all exceeded December retention goals.

All six Guard and Reserve forces also met or exceeded their December recruiting goals.

-- The Army National Guard signed 6,607 new soldiers, 143 percent of its target of 4,625 enlistees.

-- The Army Reserve signed 3,335 new soldiers, 112 percent of its goal of 2,973 enlistees.

-- The Navy Reserve signed 538 new sailors, meeting its target number of enlistees for the month.

-- The Marine Corps Reserve signed 582 new Marines, meeting its target number of enlistees for the month.

-- The Air National Guard signed 803 new Air Guardsmen, 111 percent of its target number of enlistees.

-- The Air Force Reserve signed 701 new airmen, 102 percent of its target number of enlistees.

December attrition losses in all reserve components were within acceptable limits, officials said.

Rumor is that re-enlistments will be dropping off as our brave patriots choose to not serve under a corrupt Socialist leader. BTW, leader is a joke; he’s no leader! He’s a national disgrace, IMO.

What do you mean? They can get an MBA while in service.

I agree. Enlistments and re-enlistments are going to drop dramatically. At least for qualified people.

The bad economy is also not hurting enlistment rate.

Bad economy should increase recruitment rates.

Also, I would think more minorities would want to serve under Obama (just a wild guess here, but if they really are enamered with him, wouldn’t they want to serve under him?)

My guess is, if he asks, recuitment, at least initially, would increase.

Undoubtedly several in the retention numbers.

Why?

Yes, One’s own pocket book is motivation for many more than is partisanship or ideology. And since a high percentage of the young favored Obama, serving under him will draw a different demographic than serving under McCain, who was seen as old and out of touch by the young.

We may not like the above facts. But it is the truth. We will make a big mistake is we wander into the land of make believe.

NOT to be reported by the Main Stream Media . . . unless they figure out a negative story line, like the Economy is tanking . . .wait, they used that already when the Economy was good and one quarter of recruiting was off 3%.

Someone may remember, or we can attribute this to Obama and the “Desire to Surge” for BHO.

What the hell is that supposed to mean? I don't have a damn MBA. I've done 4 combat tours to Iraq and received the Purple Heart. But F' me, we're just idiots because we didn't get some piece of toilet paper at some liberal college that teaches such gems as Victimology (for you crim justice types). Guess all the guys dying for this country ain't worth squat if they didn't have an MBA.

Last I checked the most common thing sacrificed in today's colleges, is daddy's check book and angel's sense of dignity -- posted on the Internet after a sorority party.

And from what I've seen of college students in America, they don't even teach literacy or promote intelligent thought. Just be glad there are guys like me that decided to forgo college in order for ungrateful snot-nosed brats to be proud of their MBA and mock those that give them that right to begin with.

I would have thot recruitment would be down, but with economy down, probably offsetting the O. effect.

Except have you seen the job market right now? The military is a steady paycheck with excellent benefits. And, yes, some people are only in it for the money.

" They can get an MBA while in service."

I did.

I've noticed how all the talk about irreparably damaging our military is now curiously absent from the media discourse. The truth is, we now have a proven, battle hardened fighting force that is more experienced, disciplined and lethal that at any other time in our history.

Granted, we have significant equipment degradation that needs to urgently be addressed. But the "health" of our human assets is excellent. We have NCO's and officers that are well equipped to lead our military into the first half of the new century.

Based on upcoming trends in economics, I expect recruiting to be high in 2009. However, in 2010, it will fall when Obama begins the cuts to military programs and cutting soldiers (per Congressman Barney Frank)...
