When Jonas Salk invented polio vaccine, he was a hero and Im a terrorist? he jokes, referring to a placard denouncing him at a recent demonstration by antivaccine activists outside the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta.
In recent years, the debate over vaccines and autism, which began in fear and confusion, has hardened into anger. As Dr. Offits book details, numerous studies of thimerosal, measles virus and other alleged autism triggers in vaccines have been conducted, and hundreds of children with diagnoses of autism have undergone what he considers sham treatments and been cured. Both sides insist that the medical evidence backs them.

Pushing back the bounds of ignorance.
Watch out for the “Purity of Essence” crowd. They will be along shortly.
If your child is vaccinated according to the CDC's recommended schedule, by the time your child starts kindergarten he or she will have received 48 doses of 14 vaccines. Of these, 36 doses will be given during the first 18 months of life. And now consider this: one vaccine injected into a 13-pound, two-month old infant is equivalent to 10 doses of the same in a 130-pound adult. Where is the common sense in these guidelines? Would any adult concede to being injected with 360 doses of vaccines within a couple of years span; equal to one injection every other day for two years? Public health officials have NEVER proven that it is indeed safe to inject this number and volume of vaccines into infants. What's more, they cannot explain why, concurrent with an increasing number of vaccinations, there has been an explosion of neurological and immune system disorders in American children. Some Parents are Homeschooling Their Kids to Avoid Vaccinations
There's nothing unreasonable about wanting to space out these vaccines or to avoid the vaccines which are for diseases which don't permanently cripple, such as measles.
The fact that the government is forcing itself into this issue is an abuse of their power, and FReepers who support the governments coercion in this matter are also oppressors.
My husband and I chose not to have our son vaccinated. Try 909shot.com. They have actual evidence, as well as copies of the fact sheets that come in each vaccine. We are going to wait until our son is 2, and then only get some of the vaccines.
Only if they catch it when they are older, like in their teen years and beyond. Since the chickenpox vaccine wears off, it actually increases the likelihood that someone will catch chickenpox when they are older and more susceptible to permanent damage while if they leave it alone, a young child with chicken pox has permanent immunity and no permanent damage to their reproductive organs.
Groan!
Also, most people don’t know that many vaccines are only temporary. Vaccines do not protect forever. In fact, the chickenpox vaccine may cause even more damage in the long run. An adult suffers much more from chicken pox and then shingles. If the adult had just suffered through chicken pox as a child, he or she would be in much better shape.
Sorry, we must have typed at the same time. But another fact: Infants are not a risk group for Hep B, but that is the first vaccine given at birth. If a person gets Hep B and fully recovers, which is very likely, that person will be immune the rest of his or her life.
The only babies with a real risk of Hep B are those who are born to parents who already have it. Otherwise, I’d say HANDS off!
Too late
I didn’t say who was ignorant, now did I? It is you who went mouth-frothing nutzoid.
There they go again...
No, but you are implying that ignorance is why people oppose vaccines. Let’s assume that I agree that the MMR and other vaccines have nothing to do with Autism, it’s the scrutiny that the people who do believe that placed upon childhood vaccines that got the vaccine makers to remove mercury from their vaccines which suggests that (A) good can come from questioning assumptions about vaccines and (B) that a “trust the government” and “trust the pharmaceutical companies” approach doesn’t necessarily lead either one to do the best they can to make things safe. And if breaking up the MMR into three vaccines or administering them later in life (after the point at which Autism normally becomes apparent) makes parents feel more compfortable, why should the government force not only a list of vaccines on people but a particular schedule on them. The whole “We know better than you so shut up and give us your kids” attitude a bit part of the problem.
People do generally want what’s best for their children and giving them no choice and demanding that they stick dozens of needles into their kids before they turn two understandably makes people nervious and the zealousness with which these vaccines are pushed is every bit as creepy as the arguments made by those who oppose all vaccines. As someone pointed out in the other thread, people generally didn’t have to be forced to give their kids Polio or Small Pox vaccines and probably still wouldn’t have to be. But when they start demanding Chicken Pox vaccines, people start to wonder what the real agenda is here. Preventing Chicken Pox? The disease that parents feared so much that they purposely exposed their children to it? Really? What’s next? A manditory vaccine for acne forced on kids before they are 1?
Hep B is another one. Why do they give it to all children? Because it’s politically incorrect to identify the parents in high risk groups to single out the children that really need it, so everyone’s kids are required to get it. In fact, that’s why they rush to pump as many vaccines into children as quickly as they can, because that’s when parents bring their children in to see the doctor. They are afraid that if they wait, parents will forget them later.
Read to the bottom of my post. I added, “I know you’re more flexible than
that but I don’t think the ends justify the means here.” just for you.
