I didn’t mean to imply that the 6.4 was ill fated - just the 6.0.
The engine itself wasn’t the problem, but there were mechanical failures in the Ford injectors and ECU they slapped on the Navistar engine.
My dad bought a ‘04 F250 with the 6.0L Powerstroke new in June 2004. I think he’s pretty close to 100K on that truck, not all of it easy (about a third of it was with an 8,000lb fifth-wheel in tow) and he hasn’t had it in the shop for anything other than a couple of recall notices. Overall he’s been quite happy with the truck.
There will be more of this before the years out.
Actually, things went bad when the 6 Leaker PSD came out in the F Series. Everyone was busy pointing fingers at each other over the failures.
Where do you stick those spark plugs in a diesel engine?
You must know a lot of FR readers don’t know diesels don’t have spark plugs.
Many diesel engines have glow plugs for warm up on cold mornings. That pic is supposed to represent a spark plug laying down, having just died from lack of use..............
Thanks for the information, I will have to make sure I use a 3/4 ton as a doner. The scouts had diesel’s, (nissan 6’s) the pickups and travelall’s from the 70’s were set up to use the new Diesels when they came out, but IH shut down the light truck plants before that could take place.
I'm more disappointed the cat is out of the on highway engine market after this year...
I can’t see why that’d be illegal, since the part that’s “the car” stays the same. You might have to change the TA’s VIN plates to make the state happy, though.
