arack Obama: it is no longer essential to kill Osama bin Laden

Tom Baldwin in Washington

Barack Obama last night suggested that removing Osama bin Laden from the battlefield was no longer essential and that America's security goals could be achieved by merely keeping al-Qaeda "on the run".

"My preference obviously would be to capture or kill him," he said. "But if we have so tightened the noose that he's in a cave somewhere and can't even communicate with his operatives then we will meet our goal of protecting America."

His comments, in a CBS interview last night, represent a significant watering down of the "dead or alive" policy pursued by President Bush since the terror attacks of September 11, 2001. They also appear to contradict Mr Obama's own statements made in the election campaign.

As recently as October 7, in a presidential debate, Mr Obama said: "We will kill bin Laden. We will crush al Qaeda. That has to be our biggest national security priority."

But yesterday, the President-elect adopted far less aggressive language, saying his "number one priority" was to protect America from further attack.

"I think that we have to so weaken [bin Laden's] infrastructure that, whether he is technically alive or not, he is so pinned down that he cannot function," he said. "And I'm confident that we can keep them on the run and ensure that they cannot train terrorists to attack our homeland."

So in other words, he is going to do the same thing President Bush did. Man these hypocrites would be laughable, if the stakes, our very existence, weren’t so high.

It might have meant something a few years ago. Now? who knows. It would probably be a little victory at the most but that would be something at least. It sure would feel good to see him swinging from the gallows poll.

Obama’s ignorance is showing. As in how do we know if we have him confined to a cave somewhere if we do not know where he is? This guy is scary.

Indeed.

More evidence of the DNC/MSM slandering President Bush, our missions in two war theaters, our military, therefore, aiding the enemy.....all for votes.

UnAmerican bastards!

This can't be..

He is plagiarizing President Bush????

Looks like to me, unlike Kerry..who flipped around like a whirly bird during the election...Barry took notes and waited until he got the nomination to start flip-flopping.

(Although, if you listened to all the “Hope and Change” baloney from the beginning of his campaign, he flipped around several times.)

Yes, I’m sure there’s a cabinet position you’d like him to fill.

This guy started out with “change” then he appointed enough Clintonistas that he looked like Clinton III. Now his foreign policy looks like GW III.

Catching or killing Osama bin Laden will be one of the key targets of Barack Obama's administration as it is "critical" to American national security, the US president-elect confirmed last night.
In his first televised interview since his historic election, Mr Obama made good on his rhetoric from the campaign trail that the hunt for bin Laden would remain top priority for the US.

Not even Drudge announced his return to the States-did he actually return?
Maybe Hitlery will find him in the halls of the WH
