I wouldn’t normally shop Staples, but they did have incredible deals Black Friday that beat Best Buy, CC etc.

The thing i remember most of RadioShack as a kid were those old tube tester machines they used to have in the stores.
It was always fun to play with all them knobs and dials!

I think there may have been a sharp product around the house, but I’ve never bought any myself. I get by.

They got more than one chance, they got several.

Wow I didn't read the title of this thread!

I just heard the TV news a few minutes ago that all the stores were closing.

If you buy one from CC, you will still have the manufacturer's warrentee.....

We have a two-year warranty on a laptop from Jan. 2008. Does that warranty just go away?

When I was buying a DVD there in Dec, the check-out person said that it was an outside company doing the warranties. That was while they were in Ch. 11. I guess, we have to look through our papers and find out and call to find out.

Best Buy, interestingly, will survive because despite the advantages of the Internet, people still do like to see and touch the real thing before making a buying decision. And since Best Buy is really aggressive going after the home video software market, people will still buy home videos in DVD and Blu-ray formats a lot from Best Buy (Best Buy often has an excellent, well-stocked selection of DVD box sets).

North Randall dies a slow death. I remember when it first opened.

There was actually a bus run from Solon to there.

After being open for about two years, it was not safe at all.

I yelled at my Mom for years for shopping there. An older woman with bad knees with a purse dangling..... what a target.

Of course, she was always the one to pick up hitchhikers...

True.

When I bought my daughter an iPod Touch this Christmas BB tried to get me to pay about 70 bucks for an extended warranty. I laughed. The guy tried to tell me that if I did buy it, I would be charged 50 $ shipping fees, etal. The Apple store is right up the road from where I work, I would drop it off.

I am quite good at pitching a fit if a manufacturer can not honor a warranty.

I bought my 42” LCD HDTV from them last year for $1299. Regular price for that model was $1999 at the time. I thought that was a pretty good deal and I’m enjoying the tv tonight.

.....I guess they just couldn’t compete with Best Buy.....

Actually, it was Walmart. Walmart totally redesigned its stores to include a wide array of electronics. It did not try to sell everything, only the best selling and fastest moving. This sliver came out of others hide and BB couldn’t stand it.

Do you count the ones [and/or parts for] in the attic that were scrounged from people who didn't want them any more and somebody wanted to hang onto them “just in case”?

You said — “One of the first retailers to go under, but not the last.”

There was another one (an electronics chain), about a year ago, I believe. I can’t remember their name now, though.

You’re missing the point. I research everything to the Nth degree. I was actually there to pick up a TV for my mom for Mothers Day and while I was waiting I engaged this ten year old in conversation about a TV that I knew a lot about and was amazed the crap he made up to answer my questions.

Actually the old CC people were pretty bright and the BB Magnolia people are also pretty knowledgeable. But I agree that no one should go into a store to buy a big ticket item without doing a their research.

Tweeter Etc. (home/car stereo and home entertainment) went belly up last year, but I’m not sure if they were mostly East Coast.

Same here.

At BB and CC, every 30 seconds some well meaning salesperson asks if I need help, often to the point where I feel like screaming “NO! LEAVE ME ALONE!”....LOL

At Staples, I could be unconscious on the floor back in ‘office furniture’ for days before any one found me.
